Restoring this old hunk of junk shes been through hell

Having trouble starting. took starter out and tested works fine. When i press the button it just clicks. I suspect i have some kind of issue with my ground but unsure. theres this clump of wires in my Electrical box that goes to ground that i think is the problem. does anyone know what it is? can anyone tell me what the black thing betweeen my fingers are?

has a aftermarket mpem that i think may be wired wrong still figuiring that out aswell. the weird thing is it just randomly wouldnt start, it also has a parasitic draw that i think may be related.

sort of unrelated, but my son had a jeep that would occasionally just click when he tried to start it. Two things we found, loose battery connection and a loose ground. Tightened the two up and the problem went away.

Left all the wiring as is but fuel gauge still does not work or the Tac. It does start now so I am going to proceed with working on the jet pump.

This thing was destroyed

This blue 3m 5200 mixed with ultra black is such a pain in the ass to get off. I have had good luck with a brass brush pb blaster and some steel wool.

I think they are, I have 2 of these 92 XP’s one that’s all there, and one that will only be parts. Just following along here on your thread, maybe I will pick up a few pointers
I learned these fins are called the vanes. cavitation and debris can cause the damage to occur. Slightly damaged vanes are okay to use but badly damaged vanes can cause performance loss and cavitation.

Old jet pump housing had a nice solas impeller in it. It’s in really good shape I just filed down the edges gonna re use it.

New jetpump housing with brass vanes. This is a different part number 271000249 instead of 271000090 is what’s in the manual. Brass is supposed to be better same 140mm housing fits fine. New seals and bearings I just pulled them with a harbor freight bearing puller and installed them with a press and socket. Used caliper to check depth.

Also pictured is new boots and carrier bearing. Drive shaft also has new bumpers and has been cleaned.

Replaced fuel sender baffle from the tube in the gas tank with the one seen below. I just bent the tab at the bottom let it fall out swapped them and bent it back. I now have a ohms reading similar to the manual. Still need to start to test.
