Ok I just bought a 89 Sea-Doo. The problem is I go to start it and the starter is just spinning and not engaging. I bought a new battery from Wal-Mart but it wasn't the recommended one. So Could it because of low cranking amps? The battery from Wal-Mart was a ES16B. I would really like some help please. THANKS

Starter Bendix is stuck..try whacking with a hammer if you have access to it..otherwise you need a new starter.

I'm not a complete idiot. But I am willing to learn. Besides the water makes my hands wrinkle LOL. I do have another starter that I can try. Thank you for your input.

Don't take offense to my sig. It's not ever meant to offend anyone.
Hope you didn't take it that way.
Your starter is simply stuck where it's at. It spind, but doesnt spring forward to engage the flywheel. Try tapping it with a hammer to free it.
If no luck with that, replace the starter and you should be ok.

No offense taken. The thing is it will turn over a little or sometimes grab. When starting I hear a clank like it's hitting or trying to grab. Sorry it's hard to describe sounds. Is it only engaging partially then? If I have to take my starter off I am going to have to take off my pipe huh?

The Bendix has gone bad. Inside of it is a one way bearing, so if it doesn't retract when the engine starts... it will over ramp, and not spin the crap out of the starter.

You may find that the Bendix is engaging, but that one way bearing has given up, and is just spinning.
