Hi,

I'm set that I need a 14.5" with 2 engines and a rear facing seat. The '97 speedster is perfect but one hasn't come for sale in my area in months and the weather's getting nice.

Best I can tell, my only option is the '97 speedster but maybe a few challenger models also fit the bill. There always seems to be confusion on the threads that talk about configuration on the Challenger between the regular Challenger and the 1800.

Can anyone tell me what year Challengers had a 14.5" hull, a rear facing seat, and two engines.

Thanks much.

96 & 97, challenger had that style but the 787cc engine. It wasnt until 1998 and 2000 ONLY, challenger got the 2-717's..nothing in 1999

Thanks parrothd... Searchtempest is great. My wife says I spend more time with it than with her.

I know the '96 didn't have the rear facing seat so that one is out. I'll have to focus some research on the 2 engine, 14.5" challenger. When I saw Seadooya's reply, I thought I had it. But then the 1800 challenger confusion came.

If anyone can confirm '98 and '00 challengers (14.5") had 2 engines, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

in 97, seadoo challenger had 2-models, the 14.5 and the 18ft boats. The 18ft had 2-787's, the 14.5ft had 1-787. The 1800 model had the 2-787's up to i believe 99 or 2000, then went to the Merc motor

The 96/97 14.5ft challenger had the rear facing, but single motor, the Speedster in 96 had 2-717's, but no rear facing, in 97 the speedster HAD the rear facing seat.

In 98/99, Speedster went to a 16.5ft boat, which had 2-models...regular and SK models. The regular had 2-787's, the SK had 2-717's

There was no challenger 14.5ft in 99, but 98 and 2000 models, had the 2-717's

There also was a Sportster 1800, that has 2-717's, they started in 98, and in 2000, went to the Merc motor for another yr or 2...

Hope this clears it up some.

Thanks seadooya! Great description. Everything I know to be true you listed.

That keeps my list to '97 speedster, '98 challenger, '00 challenger.

I'm assuming the 2-717's sportster 1800 is not 14.5" so that's out.

ssmedt's says his '01 challenger has twin 717's and his avatar looks like the 14.5". Could anyone confirm the hull length of an '01 challenger with twin 717's?

Sorry to ask the same question so many times but the confusing and sometimes contradictory answers keep my unsure.

.

Sorry bud, missed that one, yup..its a 14.5ft w/ 2-717's

Might have found another.

Anyone have configuration info on an '02 sportster LT? One reference I found says twin 717s. The few low rez pics I could find looked like 14.5' hull with the rear facing seat.

OK. So here is the list of all the Seadoo boats that have 14.5' hulls, 2 engines, row of 3 seats with one reverse facing "spotter seat":

'97 speedster
'98, '00, '01 challenger
'02 sportster LT

Anyone disagree that these boats are right?
Anyone think there are others fit the description but aren't listed?

Thanks.

Thanks!!!

If you really want twin engine. I'd say go for a 98-99 16.5' speedster. Price is not a lot more, but you do get a lot more for your money. Seats can rotate so you get the rear facing seat. you have bucket seats, higher quality material, more options. 2X 787CC wich i discovered today, are VERY fast and a BIG fuel tank (it sux when you need to fill up at the marina and pay big price for fuel, or you can't get a full day with your fuel tank)

At least, you should try one. (Or a SK if you don't look for 220HP, but i doubt the SK will cost a lot less fuel)

I'd rather a bigger boat too. But I don't want to pay $100/mo for storage. Only the 14.5' boat will fit in my garage since I have cabinets that take up some of the depth. In fact, I have just 18" from cabinet to garage door. Not sure that will even fit the the trailer.

Darned HOA says no parking boats outside.

I solved that problem by installing a second door and making a pass thru to my back yard.. :)
