08 215 RXP slowly died on me going across lake. It acted like an old carb motor flooding out as I hit the throttle then went to an idle over about a 45 second period from 5500 rpm then died about 10 sec later. It started to make a rattle type noise at 2200 rpm but would sound normal at high speeds so I stopped and couldn't see anything visually wrong then headed back to the dock and made it about a mile when it died. I tried to start it but the starter barely had enough power to turn it over. I've pulled the plugs and they are dry, no water in cylinders. It did turn over a little easier with no compression but was still way slower than normal. Did have spark. Tried swapping batteries with other ski and same results. New to owning and looking for advice on what to try next. Both local dealers are two weeks out in service dept.

Reason I asked is because you said RPMs dropped. Thats usually what happens when you lose boost due to a blown supercharger. At 75 hrs it isnt a big deal but the fact that it has 5 years on those bearings concerns me. Usually superchargers need a rebuild at 100 hrs. The bearing cages on them get brittle over time and can fail so typicall every 2-3 years a rebuild is a must if you dont want issues regarding of hrs.

Also, are you seeing any trouble codes on the display? It could have gone into limp mode but that usually is due to some sort of failure and will display a fault code. If you d have a code showing, write it down and post it here so we can determine where to start.

Another thing that could have happened is you sucked something up that got wrapped around your driveshaft and is not allowing it to turn freely causing rpm drop and slow cranking. Something like that will not trip a fault code. Look underneath through your intake grate and see if there's anything wrapped up around the driveshaft or impeller.

No codes came up. Nothing unusual on the gauges came up at all. Once it stopped nothing seemed hot or smelled any different than normal either.

I just got the super charger off and you were right. Turbine was rubbing on the housing, obviously the noise i heard and should have just shut it down then but didn't want to be stranded now i'm going to see how expensive of a screw up that was and if the motor itself is now shot from the filings. Thanks KK40384 for pointing me in the right direction.

I might have gotten lucky. Filings around the throttle body but no sign of shavings, filings or the grey film like around the supercharger in the valves and around the intake ports. I might try my luck with cleaning everything up in intercooler/throtle body and getting a new supercharger then changing oil after a couple of very easy hours on it. Thanks again for the help. Recommend anything different for supercharger or just see if I can hopefully find a factory one tomorrow before the 4th.

Man you got the worst scenario out all of the ones I thought of. Doesn't sound like you ran it long so you may get lucky. Clean it out real good as far as throttle body, intake, intercooler and intake ports on the head. The real fine shavings on the intake side will most likely just blow right through and not damage anything in the motor. It's the ones that made it in the oil that will seize a motor. There's others here than can better describe how but I'm sure you have to take the oil pump apart and clean that just as a precaution. I would pull the oil filter out and check to see if there any shavings or anything caught up in it.

Do you plan on leaving the ski stock or modifying it? If you plan on modifying it now's a good time to upgrade to a X charger and some 42ln injectors. Otherwise just stay with a stock SC. Either way you can PM JoeZ with PWCMuscle and he'll take care of you. He'll even throw in a little discount if you mention you're a member on this forum (if you call that is. Through a PM I'm sure he can figure that part out lol)

do you have a picture of what the gears look like on the back of the supercharger?

Well this is unfortunate. Personally I'd find someone with a borescope and check the cylinders that way. Saves you from pulling the head. But if you're cleaning the oil pump then you are already way in on the labor side of things.

Only pic of turbine. Gears On back show very little wear.

Buying a borescope that plugs into USB for $35 off amazon. 7 mm with two LEDs for light, should come in handy for a lot of things.
