I notice that I have oil in the bottom of the engine compartment and the oil is reading lower on the stick prior to the last time I took it out. I have inspected every part of the motor that is visible without pulling it out and I do not see any area that looks to have oil leaking. Is it possible that there is an area on the bottom of the motor where the oil could be leaking out. I assume the oil sits towards the bottom of the engine, I assume there is not an oil pan. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Couple questions.

Have you had the ski long? Any service performed recently?

Possible places to look.

Some GTI's have the crank sensor on the left (port) side of the magneto cover at the bottom, you'll see a cable coming out. Feel around there for oil leak. On the bottom of the case there are 8 torx bit covers that if not installed properly will eat the oil ring and cause oil leaks, kinda difficult to see if engine is in the ski. Also, inspect the oil seal where the driveshaft comes out of the mag cover.

One thing I've done is get the ski on the trailer and level. Get some shop towels and reach under the block and clean up all the oil. Then place clean shop towels under the engine block flat. Come back in the morning and pull the rags out and you'll at least get an idea of where the leak is.
