Ok b4 I explain all of this, please take into consideration that this is my first jet ski. I got it for 5400 with 200 hours on it. I've owned this jet ski for literally 1 day. Bought it from a local seller on craigslist. Its an rxp with a riva stage 2 kit on it. Today right when I started it and took off for a quick lap the hi temp light came on. Then it went off about 15 seconds later. Then went most of the day without going on again. I was going pretty much full throttle too. Then shut it down, had a beer, ate some food and I decided to show off my new purchase for my girlfriend. Once we got into channel, I had the trim down, but it didn't want to launch onto plane at all and once we finally got up to maybe 40mph, the hi temp light went off again. And again and again. Needless to say she wasn't impressed and I was pretty pissed off. I stuck my hand up the intake grate after we parked it and there really wasn't much of anything in it from what I could feel. It was almost like the jet was overspinning. I made sure to check the digital engine temp and it never went over 80. So I gave up. I pulled it out of the waterand by that time it was dark.
The guy I bought it from said it has only happened to him once when he was cutting donuts and jumping waves. He also said he replaced an exhaust. Sensor about a week ago. But he didn't reset the computerm do u guys think that could be it? Please help!

The temp sensor came on because it might be running hot, or the sensor is bad... The impeller might be the problem of it revving high and not pulling hard to plane. Here is the specs on the wear ring. Wear Ring clearance for your seadoo 0.035 mm or (.014in) Measure the clearance at the center of the impeller blades, with a 12” long gauge. Measure the clearance from the venturi side of the jet pump.

Ok thanks karl. I just don't understand how it is intermittent. If the wear ring is worn wouldn't it just not move at all?

Sorry to jump in, but if the wear ring was only a little bit out it would still move. Just not at top speed like it should. The wear ring needs to be pretty close to the impeller to pump water. If it is only happening every once in a while sounds to me like you are doing a lot of spinning and not allowing the back end to stay in the water for it to pump and keep the exhaust cool.

Hey thanks guys. I got it figured out. Underneath my cooland reservoir there is a small cup with a screen in it like a filter. It was missing a gasket and spewing water everywhere hindering my exhaust from being cooled properly. It must have been added with all of the upgrades. Do u guys think it would screw things up if I just bypass the filter all together while I look for another gasket?
