Dont think youll find a new one anywhere... Nick says this is the single most difficult MPEM to find.. There was one on ebay a while back but i havent seen it... What issues are you having?

Yes it is... I really dont want to rip into it but a slow as it cranks, it tells me there is prolly the same gunk in the crank that I found in the mag. Meh... I was hoping I could get a peek inside without spending the time pulling the engine.

I know it's not the battery... works great in the GTS...starter was replaced with a used OEM...could be that or the cables... This is the ski that had a bunch of dirt and water in the mag and around the flywheel...

Is there any way to split the 717 while its installed in the craft? I've been able to get it to crank over but it seems labored and I fear there is a whole lot of gunk in with the crank... this will prolly be my winter project and I dont want to pull the engine unless I really must... just want...

I was afraid of that.... guess I'll just take a pic before I loosen it and try to put it back the same way

97 717... Hopefully I'm not overlooking the obvious here... How do I disconnect the oil inject cable from the carb without changing the adjusment?

A harmonic puller will work but dont screw the bolts in too far.. could damage the stator. Youll prolly have to apply a little heat to the crank to help it out... I pulled my gunk frozen one off with a torch and a little persuasion with a 3lb sledge...

Where does it go? Looked thru most of the schematic websites but only go back to 96... Is it the same part on the 96 an newer?

Can be repaired for a whopping $2 and a little time if you wanna commit to it.. 97 GSI 5a Fuse

@TonyTerri I'm hoping you haven't sent your mpem off yet... I was fiddling with my gs and came across a very similar issue to what you are having.... Everything works but nothing happens when you push the button... Try running a jumper wire from the ignition ground to a bolt on the motor...

It all actually looks pretty decent.. I would imagine the steering cable could be replaced but if it was that bad I would suspect it would be "tight" at any speed... The bushings may be a little worn so Ill prolly replace them this winter while Im doing all the other "mods"...

97 GTS...Idling or half throttle the steering is nice and loose requiring minimal effort to turn.. Once I get into higher speeds, it takes a good effort to crank to the stops. Is this a safety feature built in? My GSI doesnt act the same way...

Awesome! I love bringing things back from the dead... fuel lines on this one are good but they'll be replaced this winter... I've gotta do a float on my gts

Looking to put a finger throttle on my 97 GSI/GTS.. Any one ever tried one of these? Would it work without too much modification to the bar cover? PJS Finger Throttle
