Hello, boat owners. This post applies to you if your boat can take a removable cooler, particularly the 180 Challenger models. I'll bet that the other models have the same size spaces for the removable coolers, but I haven't seen them personally to compare.

Looking online, I saw that the best price I could find for the cooler was $65. This is quite expensive, but I decided to get one, anyway, because I thought it might be worth the convenience of being able to "drop in" a cooler right into the boat.

Imagine my surprise when the cooler came and I found it's just a basic Igloo cooler! It's actually labeled as Igloo--no attempt was made to even put a Sea-Doo label on it! A quick search on the internet and I found the same exact cooler (Igloo Cool 16) at WalMart for $18.50: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Igloo-Cooler-Blue-and-White-16-Quart/14550416. They have free shipping, so total cost to me with tax was about $20 each.

Even after I take a hit on the restocking fee, I'll come out much better. If you hate WalMart, there are other sites, such as basspro.com, that has it for $20 plus shipping: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10217303_325004000_325000000_325004000_325-4-0.

So, if you were thinking it would be nice to have drop-in coolers but didn't want to pay the high price of a Sea-Doo part, here's the alternative.

If I've saved one person from my mistake, it was worth it.

I only decided to buy the Sea-Doo part because I thought they were custom-fit to the storage space. $83 retail is insane for a $29 (Igloo list price) cooler, especially one that can be purchased for less than $20.
