Yellowed Underside

The ski was basically a river ski before I got it. It was well taken care of, but the gelcoat on the bottom side was quite neglected. It has now yellowed, and in some places its very strong others very light.

I have tried 3M Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound and also Rubbing Compound used at SeaDoo Factories (To be quite honest the stuff I have could possibly be Buff Magic, SeaDoo uses a lot of YachBrite products). Neither have completely removed, but only slightly lightened the darker areas. I really would hope I'm not going to have to sand the complete bottom side of the ski. I have read on buff magic a bit, but will it do the job at hand?

The pictures were shot all in the same area. It's pretty much like that all over. The top side is white, but I need to bring the shine back. I think normal rubbing compound will work there fine.

muriatic acid should clean it but be careful with it, it's nasty stuff, don't get it on your trailer, it eats galvanizing right off steel. use goggles and gloves and don't let sit on too long. most boat places use this on a regular basis on the bottom of hulls.

Hows it work? Spray and wipe it on? Or just let it sit and wipe off. I have been going super hard with the machine buffer and its taking a little more out. But thats gonna wear me out quick. Also, where can one locate a product like this?

at local hardware store as well, read directions for use, it's nasty stuff like I said, basically eats off all the staining, will look new when your done.

wipe on, let sit, wash off. that's it.

Sounds good, now just figure out how to do it with it sitting on the trailer still.
