Nope. These things are the answer. They are actually lighter weight then most carbon fiber hoods. Only around 2000 were ever made and many have been lost to people not understanding what they had and painting over them.

I agree Matt! I have two of them myself and think there value is lost by most. Shame on anyone who painted their single yellow hood black. Like you said most didn't know.

I painted one, and on purpose knowing what it was. I put it on my personal ske and wanted it to match when I opened the hood. Didnt want any blue or purple showing anywhere.

All plastic singles are the same material, different color. Matt said they're lighter than the carbon fiber hoods.

Yeah some of the carbon hoods are very light like the old ATM "Holloween" air induction. Some where cool but not a weight savings especially if loaded with gauges.

What is that insert from? it looks like the next page down shows some for the HX. Where can I find that original doc?

That is a old brochure from ATM. They made carbon fiber stuff in the mid to late 90's. Today you have to act quickly when the used stuff comes up for sale. HX's are the worst because the racers gobble the stuff up. A lightweight hood for a HX just sold for $1000 and it was pretty beat up.

I am looking hard for HX UMI right now for my 95 Rocketship Racing resurrection. (pic shown)

One hood sold and shipped out today, only two left!!!

I realized this last one has too many broken posts that hold the screws that keep the two halves together. It still looks good everywhere on the outside but would probably take some Automotive Goop or the like to be solid again.

I'd sell it for $100 plus shipping(around $20) or I'll just use it on a local ski eventually.

Good luck with the sale.. side note: how are you feeling/healing up Matt?

My leg still swells up if I don't wear my compression sock. My darn knee is tired on my good leg. HAHA thanks for asking. I'm still happy and going all the time. I'm gonna need a jockey to run the buoys for me in the future. Thanks for asking.

Glad to hear you are doing better. I hope you can get back up to 100% someday soon. Now that you have had some time to reflect on the accident.. Are your racing days officially over?

Yes I'm afraid so. The good part is that I've stayed around here and kept my nose to the grindstone instead of chasing the tour. I'm in a lot better financial shape as a result and able to shop homes.

I'm not done with racing though. I'm building all my keeper skis right on the line. What I mean by that is a racer of every model that's just de-tuned enough for me to run pump gas in it for my rec riding. Then when the tour comes around I can throw someone else on their that's willing.

I had two serious people hit me up for a "rental" when the tour came around this year. Next year it starts again in Panama City and Pensacola and I live right in between. I would get just as much pleasure from a ski I built passing another ski as I would doing it myself.
