Well fellas I'm in a pickle. My 97 xpl shock is working fine, but it seems to not be compressing correctly when I try to reinstall the seat. It's sitting too high and I can't attach the rubber boot because of how high it's sitting. I've adjusted the manual knob on the bottom of the shock but is still too tall. Attached pics, I removed the rubbed sleeve for better pic

the adjustment is for rider weight. it won't help for the install.

I have a 02, you have to remove the black portion under the seat. it's held in by (4) 7/32 bolts

oddly one of the very few non metric bolts on a sea-doo. It's these and the ones in the handlebars. same bolts.

you'll need a 7/32 with 1/4" drive and i usually use a 2 or 4" extension.

Revisiting this since I'm back in the states. The seat still sits too high, rubbing the hood, and the rubber boot still has a good 2 inches where I can't fasten it. Anybody?

The shock just seems like it's too long, I measured my 98xpl and the shock is 2 inches shorter?

Where did the shock come from. It should be the same length on all 97+ XP's.

The shock is not compressed at all when installed. If it is too long it is the wrong shock or broken.

It looks like all shocks I've seen on eBay, and still compresses if that gives you any idea. Frustrating that I finally have everything finished and it's the Damn seat that's effed up lol

I don't think they are not the same on all 97 and later XP's. At first they had a higher mount and a shorter shock and then they had a shorter mount and a longer shock. You have a 97 there could you confirm this? If you do need a shorter shock I have one on a HX seat you can have. I need to give you back those alignment parts anyway.

I came across a similar issue earlier this year when replacing a broken shock on one of my 97 XP's. I had a 99 XPL sitting around, but discovered that they were two different lengths and made this exact thing happen.

I stand corrected.
1997 XP uses shock # 291001091
1998-2004 XPL uses shock #291001244

Pic one is the 98, it's roughly 10.5 inches

Pic two is 97, ~12.5 inches, this is the one that seems to sit high when I reinstall it

if you're stuck with the shock, you can get the carrier/mount from an XPL, that will lower the seat to where it's supposed to be. Or get the correct shock... which saves about eleventy hundred hours.

It's the stock shock as far as I can tell, which is where I'm confused. I don't wanna buy another one and run into the same problem.

Oooo I didn't see your first post about you having the same issue. So what probably happened was when I took off the seats, I switched them somehow since they are very similar. Hahaha man what an idiot I am
