XP Limited Color Scheme Help

So I sold my 95 XP and picked up a 99 XPL from my buddy. He bought it as a hull and everything in it is brand new OEM BRP parts all the way to the crank. It only has 4 hours on it, has a new seat cover, and that's why I bought it. Nice and minty. I picked it up for $2k, is that a fair price? Seemed more than fair to me.

So as we all know the XPL has a mix of silver, yellow, and black and in my opinion it looks too busy. In all my vehicles I try to stick to two primary colors (I.e. Black and chrome, black and yellow, etc.) I am planning on removing all decals on the top side that are silver and the replacing the decal on the silver portion of the hood with something cleaner looking.

I do not want to take away from the XPL look but I want it to look cleaner, but not like the 787 model. Here are the two things I was thinking.

1. Paint all silver pieces black and then go to a black/yellow seat cover. I would probably leave the very top hood piece yellow tonite in and not be so black.

2. Paint all the black pieces yellow. So the upper and lower hood yellow and middle black and the side tie off (what's it called) yellow as well. I feel like they may be too much yellow.

Can I get some input here? The rub rail down will remain black with yellow logo and I would like to get some hydroturf, and maybe some colored grips depending on the scheme. Do we all think removing the dated tribal esque graphics would clean it up?

I need some opinions here. Leaving performance alone but wanting it to look nice!

Here's the canvas:

I think it is a very personal choice. If it were me I like all my skis minty fresh stock. I do prefer the colors of my 2001 XP and the 2000 black one over the others though.

I agree with that but being a 951 and knowing the history of this one I opted to go the safe route.

I think stripping the graphics looks really clean with a nice sea doo logo or two and nice mats and seat. Just wasn't sure if anyone else had changed theirs up.

The 97 xp had a 787 and the 98 and up xp limiteds have the 951 until it became the xpdi with 951 direct injection

Actually to get technical the 1998 & 1999 Xp's were the only "Limited" XP's then in 2000-2002 it was just an XP again then 2003-2004 it was an XP DI.

But yes, the 1998 and up had the 951 carb engines going to 951 Direct Injection for 2003-2004.

Is the DI any better?

Seems like this thing is pretty tuned up per say from the factory. Anything I wanna do other than cosmetics?

Planning on stripping graphics, jet trim seat, hydroturf.

The DI is an entirely different animal they are great when running good and sip fuel but when they act up it can get tricky to diagnose and expensive to fix.

Yes, the 951 is pretty tapped out from the factory. There isn't much more you can do and keep it reliable.

Make sure you only feed it full synthetic API-TC oil and keep the fuel system maintained and clean.

I was considering painting the silver parts on my XPL green. I think Green and Yellow go better than Silver and Yellow.

Me too and that looks sweet and I've seen it but I don't wanna paint the whole top side!

I think stripping it of the awful stock tribal look alike graphics will do it wonders in addition to a jet trim seat.

Perfect. It's only got 4 hours on the motor so I wanna do it right from the get go. If she's strung out already I'll just leave it be. I've heard of a couple easy weight saving mods but other than that I'll just keep her nice and clean and make it a looker!
