Hi All,

I have a XP 1996 which I bought last year (with a brand new impeller and shaft installed right before I got it). It ran great until yesterday when it choked and I had to pull it out of the water. It started well (as usual), but after about 20 yds. it start screaming like a whale (that is not a joke) and lost traction almost completely. I ran to the shore in idle (with that loud scream going on) and opened the engine compartment to do a visual inspection, and what I found was very interesting: at the back end of the engine (where the impeller shaft gets inserted in) there was something sticking out looking like some sort of transmission belt. As far as I know this machine does not have one, but rather has gaskets and o-rings/seals. The engine doesn't seem to be busted (I briefly started it again after about an hour), but I don't know what to do at this point. One thing I want to avoid is running to the dealership for them to charge me an arm and a leg for the repair. I can do a lot on my own if I know what needs to replaced, so any tips will be much appreciated.

Thank you!
