Yes a Welch plug would be an almost flat disc with no lip on it like you would see on a standard freeze plug. They have a slight convex shape and would be about 5 thousandths larger than the hole they are plugging. We don’t see them used much here in the US, but you’ll run into them on some old VW’s and obscure Solex carburetors...

I replaced the battery cables, but still won't turn over with the plugs in. I have also swapped batteries and solenoid. Makes no difference. At this point I can't think of anything but the starter. I really don't want to go through the trouble of swapping starters but it's looking like that is the next step unless any of you have other suggestions.

That’s it unless it’s hydro locking but you would see liquid coming out of the plug holes when you crank it.

Took them to the lake for the first time today. Xp ran great and stayed dry.

The spx will stall coming off idle if it idles too long. Have to feather the throttle to get past that. I also noticed it seems sluggish until about half speed. So I'm thinking I have a low speed screw issue. Plugs didn't have excessive build up. Wondering if the low-speed screws are a bit lean. It also had some water getting in somewhere. Bailers are keeping up til I find it.

Had the low speed screws at 3/4 turn, which matched my notes from disassembling the carbs, however the chart linked in the carb rebuild sticky has them at 1 turn. I guess I'll find out next weekend if that was the issue.

Well we spent the weekend at the lake. The xp is running great. But the spx is still sluggish, typically when trying to accelerate from low/mid rpm range to wide open. If I pump the throttle it will usually take off. I have had the LSS all over the place and took the pto HSS from half to close. The only thing that seemed to make any difference was opening up the LSS but still wasn't perfect. Any suggestions?

I also think I am getting water in through a loose sponsor. What head type or those fasteners so I can snug it up?

Thanks again.
