Sigh... I can't edit my posts.

I think I said in the beginning I'm looking for a 3 seater, and most importantly speed and maneuverability.

Reverse isn't a big deal to me.. I don't see why it would be.

I'd like to spend no more then around $2500.

Does anyone think I could get an 02 model for around that price? The only reason why I want an 02 is that it's 4 stroke.

I'm reading that the GTX speed is average around 50-55 MPH. I haven't been on a Ski in a long time. Is that a sufficient amount of speed?

A GTX is a good ski, my buddy has a 2000 GTX which has been bored over but it would be a rare to find a good working 02 GTX for 2500, I'm seeing them for around 3200 and up. If you do find one for 2500 or less expect there some thing to be wrong with it. Just keep an eye on craigslist and if you find some thing, make sure you ask 5 billion questions about it. That's how my buddy got his 96 Speedster for 3900, boat was in great condition the only problem was the steering nozzle on the left engine broke off and the guy had already ordered a new one when we came and looked at it. So just keep a good eye out and ask the owner plenty of questions and get'em to start it up and if possible a test drive.

And speed wise depending on if your taking the kids or wife out or tubing then it'll be fast enough, and if you happen to get the speed bug and want faster you could either mod the engine or buy another ski for you and mod that one out.

Okay, I'll try to put up more money then.

Is it a bad decision to only want a 2002 because its 4 stroke? I just thought it'd be easier for me not to deal with mixing gas and oil... Not that it's hard, I just don't want to deal with it.

Your really going to to have a hard time finding a 4tech for $2500. I would look at anything form 1996 to 1998. The Xp as mentioned before is a great ski for one person, its fast and can handle like nothing else one the water. The GSX (what I own) is a great two seater that is fast and can also handle very well. The GTX is the largest of these three skis but is the most stable and is still pretty quick. The RFI and DI modle skis have there flaws and problems just like any other ski, but with these skis the issue is how much it cost to fix them when they do break down. Use the search button here on the forum to help answere questions you might have. Good luck with your search:cheers:

I think what I've gathered from these posts is that I should be looking into a GTX or a GSX.

Am I being too picky by saying I want one that is 4 stroke?

You can never be too picky, if that's what you want then there is nothing wrong that. Don't settle for something that your not going to either enjoy, like or want because buying a jet ski is just like buying a car. Just keep in mind that not all 2 strokes have to be pre-mixed my 96 XP has an oil pump and my 99 GS did have an oil pump but my buddy a while back decided to remove it because he didn't want to risk dealing with a possibility of an oil pump breaking on him on the water and f*n everything. Both skis' are 2 stroke too, and premixing the GS isn't all that big of a hassle for me, so just remember it's what you want and what will make you and your family happy.

In my opinion I would never own a DI model, the rfi are better, what you are talking about here is fuel injection over carb models, for instance a 2000 gtx listed as that would be twin carb model and 2000 gtx di would be fuel injected of which the di's where not very good. Then there are the fuel injected rfi models.

Now in terms of mixing oil, the years you are looking at would all be oil injected where this means so long as the oil pump is working you simply put the correct oil in the oil tank and it mixes it for you.

Now a 4 stroke does not need this it will have oil in the crankcase but then remember you will now have to preform oil changes on a 4 stroke where as a 2 stroke you do not.

Next a 4 stroke is going to cost you over $4500 in good running condition, you can get a 2 stroke gtx which is the 3 seater for around $3000-$3600 depending on the condition you can look at that where as $300 will get you a good running 2000/2001 gtx 2 stroke 951 with around 150-300 hours on it but wont look like new, then up near 3600 will get you lower hours usually under 120 hrs and the ski will still look like new and so will the trailer, you will always spend more for a better ski. Anything under $2800/3000 your getting into problems unless it is an older ski, but even then I have seen 1997/98 gtx's selling for near $3000 as well. There is a lot to look for while buying a ski, the best thing to do if you are unsure is to at min hire a pwc marine mechanic to go with you and inspect a ski so that you can be certain it is good, as well always and I mean always request a sea trial before you buy it, if there are no problems the person will usually say thats fine without skipping a beat, now if they change the subject, or think about it or give you an excuse then it may be best to go look at another ski, you will know because they will try to not let you leave as well.

The best thing to remember is to know everything is always sold for a reason whether good or bad......

Now in terms of maint on them it would be best if you wanted to learn on here it would save you alot of money, shops actually in my area are all usually over $100 per hour for a quality mechanic if they own a shop if they are fully mobile like myself you may find a little cheaper to save on overhead where as still $80 per hour.

The one thing to remember is a boat is nothing like a car, if it floats and has electronics and or a motor you are going to ALWAYS spend money to keep it going. Bosts are a money pit, I am not telling you this to scare you off just letting you know, with that said it might be better to buy a newer lower hour ski in better condition to keep down repair costs for now.

When it comes to boats there are two of the happiest days of a boat owners life, the day he buys it and then the day he sells it.

We are all here to help each other and can guide you through just about anything marine related.
