wont stay running

may be idle set to low and thats why its shutting off.
You can always raise idle to keep it running then back it off.

I also linked you a site to increase size of main jet

yea ocod, low compression is what im feeling is why it wont run under load...
think about it..he NEVER DID A COMPRESSION TEST, assuming its ok cuz it runs.....
he NEEDS TO DO what i said up top...
miami....take them damn plugs out right now and tap that button...

As soon as I got to the lake I tried to start it until the battery died

is that with a new fully charged battery????
I can't see you killing a battery if it wasn't already weak and not being to start it in the water..
Take battery out and load tested. Or al least fully charged...

YES YES compression check already..

also, if the motor was flooded at one point, and that same battery was in it, and you NEVER took it out, refilled the vents and recharged it, it will NEVER have enough load to start that ski on the water...
trust me i know...
same thing happened to me...

At this point.

Its either bad battery. Load testing will prove that. I had to buy new sealed batteries b/c other ones didn't have enough CCA

or

no compression.

Brand new battery package

ok then...PLEASE fog that engine and go get the compression gauge...$25.99
If its the money thats the issue, go buy the thing, DONT SCRATCH IT, KEEP IT CLEAN, and ONLY make one slit on the side to open it...use it, then return it...and tell them it felt like it wouldnt fit or something....
BUT, TRUST ME, if you're gonna own/work on/fix skis, youre gonna NEED IT

post #211 and still going strong.

MB - Take a deep breath - then do a compression test with a fully charged battery. Keep the tester you'll need it later as 96 says.
Did you keep cranking on it trying to start it?
Did you let the starter cool between crankings?

Guys - Why would a fairly new battery run down just trying to start it????

96 - Why fog b4 comp test??? Won't that give a false reading???? IDK , so just asking.

Brand new battery package

Not to be rude but I don't care :)
Seriously take battery and get it tested new batteries from discount/Autozone/Sears I don't care who don't charge batteries???
Make sure its charged 12.v with over 500CCA. The battery I got said 380 on the box or something but when load tested it was almost double. Mine has no problems when charged turning over in the water.....

or it has no compression

lol oscar..between me and you, we'll get this kids ski running before 500 posts...if not, I'll BUY hima new ski! (and dont put bs posts in on purpose so it hits 500)
SDB, dude's telling me he's spittin black oil out his exhaust..that ONLY EVER happened to me after motor was flooded with saltwater...
so, if this guys cranking his engine, i'd hope he'd fog it before it rusts...
but, he said there was nothing shooting out of his cylinders....

oscar...picture being a young kid, all excited trying to get your ski started, new battery or not, you know he's cranking the hell out of it, draining it...
yes miami, this has to be THE LONGEST POST IN HISTORY...so here's the deal....
you can literally be wasting all your time and effort on something that needs additional work...
as all of us have mentioned, here and in other posts...
a motor with compression under 120, then 110, then to 105, then to 90 psi...WILL START out of the water and on a garden hose, and WILL NOT start in the water/under load..
GO kill two birds with one stone...I even have an advanced auto down here..it may be 30 miles, but i STILL have one..
so, take the battery there,or to autozone, or wherever, have them load test it, if its no good, and you said its a brand new battery pkge, go get a replacement...AND get the damn compression gauge...

ok, well at least you got the thing running, right? so on thurs go get that gauge...also, if you cant wait, if you've got any "mechanic" friends, or know anyone that owns any type of shop, be it marine, auto, etc...they'll have one you can borrow..i'd call them now and set it up for tomorrow if possible..
good luck...
post some pics of that motor if you can...

heres a link to a video i just posted of the seadoo running..notice the ton of white smoke..thats the only thing coming out of the exhaust..the sound isn't great but it is running..i wish you could here the motor....FYI still never got compression gauage...but i have been charging the battery 10 hrs at a time..i believe its good..i first bought the battery at walmart and then took it to advance to charge it..they didn't tell me anything about it being bad...the black oil spots is from when i flushed the motor with the water hose attached.. remember it has been sitting for a few days now. and when i went to start it up today it started right up the first time but it will not idle very long....well I went and looked at the exhaust again and I noticed more of that black oil coming out. There's another puddle. Real thick
