wont start

i have a 2007 Seadoo RXT255 with 32 HRS 2 years ago sometimes when you put the key on it would have a single long beep and not start the display would read maintenance. if you took the key off and put it back on it would beep twice and start. it has progressively gotten worse sometimes have too take it on and off 15 to 20 times. it has always stated eventually.
any thoughts?

It could be the lanyard but more often than not it is the DESS post that the lanyard connects to.

1 Beep is telling you that it is either the wrong lanyard or that it doesn't recognize it and will not start.
2 beeps is telling you it recognizes the lanyard and is ready to start.

On a rare occasion cleaning the metal contacts of the post and lanyard can work.

Yes. Sounds like a gotten bad DESS post. Not a big deal to replace. I replaced one last year.
