Just wondering if anyone can give me detailed instructions on how to winterize my 2003 sea sik sportster 947. There was frost on my truck this morning so I would like to get it done today. On a side note, I read that the pump needs to be greased or oiled to keep from freezing I need to know how this is done and what grease if oil to use. I am afraid things could freeze tonight and I don't want to pay the dealer $250 to do everything. I am not sure how much I can get done today so I would like to start with the important stuff. If anyone could help me out or point me towards a link with instructions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I think the biggest thing is to pour antifreeze into the engine flush fitting (the top one where you'd hook up a garden hose).

I could be wrong though. You may find instructions if you search the forums.

Or if you really wanna do it right, buy a month of premium membership here and download the shop manuals.

There are tons of winterizing threads. Here is what do but im kinda anal.

1. Add antifreeze through the flush fitting.
2. Change jet pump oil with mobil 1 synthetic 75/90 gear oil.
3. Fog engine through hole in air intake till motor bogs down.
4. Take out spark plugs, add fogging oil for 15 seconds. Reinstall brand new plugs, crank engine a few times.
5. Add marine fuel stabilizer. I do this the last trip out on the boat so that it actually circulates through the fuel system.
6. Spray pretty much everything in the engine compartment with a light layer of silicone spray.
7. Hook up battery tender and leave it all winter.

Then I put the cover on and leave it for the winter. This is all done even though it is kept in my garage that hardly goes below 30-40 degrees.

Thanks Foster. I appreciate the help. I added fuel stabilizer. Added marine/RV antifreeze through the flush fitting with the motor running until it came out the outlet in the transom and at the same time fogged the intake letting it bog for a few seconds then stalled the motor with it. I then sprayed the inside of the cylinders through the plug holes. Got the battery out and on the tender in my basement. Wasn't sure yet about the pump oil but now I know what to use, I just have to figure out how to add it. I believe you have to remove the reverse gate and pull the nozzle off the jet. I am not exacrtly sure how to get the nozzle off or what to do from there. I amagine there is a set screw style plug or something to drain/add the oil through? Is it the same plug? How much does it take to fill it? Thanks again.

rfoster130....is the only place you add antifreeze through the flush fitting?? Does this allow anti-freeze into the cooling system and are you adding while the engines are running?

Thanks,

I added AF to my GTX last Saturday. I hook up one end of a hose to the flush outlet and the other end of the hose to a pump and poured AF into another hose for the inlet side of the pump. I started the motor and then turned on the pump. I continued to pour AF into the hose until it came out pink from the jet. I turned off pump and stopped the motor...DONE

Drained the hoses into bucket to use on next ski then finally back in AF bottle when finished.

I also added Sta-bil before hand and fogged afterwards.

Yes you add it in just the flush fitting. Do it with the engine running. i fog the engine at the same time.
