will broken reed valve cause damage

hi i have a 1998 gtx limited, i found one of the reed valves broken off, i can't see the broken piece anywhere. so my question is will it damage anything or will it pass through. I am currently assuming it would damage the cylinder.

Anytime the engine easts something, it can cause damage. The engine needs to come apart to verify things are OK.

So I will pull the head off and inspect the cylinder, if there is no signs of damage am I clear or do I need to split the lower case to to find the piece. I've felt around and looked with an inspection camera in the port where the reed valve sits, but I can't see the broken piece.
