As a mechanic of roughly 50 years I always wonder this. Why do so many people try to reinvent repairs when the factory info is generally available either right here or on related forums, or in THE FACTORY MANUALS? There is commonly a load of people posting who want a 2 minute fix, but won't do even the least amount of basic research? This is how professional mechanics get to the level of EXPERT. Please listen carefully when a credible answer is given. If it has to do with steering or complex engine issues, leave to someone with experience to do it or help you along. Yo will save time and money in the end.

I AM NOT talking down to anyone, but see a very clear path to solving most every problem posted over the years.

Because people today want an instant answer or fix with no work on their part. Basically lazy, lazy and lazy. And, everyone on Facebook is a self proclaimed "expert" on everything.

People want instant gradifacation and they look up on Google they get a thousand answers they see the quickest easiest answer decide that's there problem and think it's a quick fix

Well, as usual, things aren't always what they seem.

You can go to an "expert" mechanic and end up in worse shape than you started (this appears to be acutely problematic with Sea-Doo "experts" and dealers - just look at all the posts on this and the GreenHulk forum regarding folks who have experienced this). You also pay an arm and a leg for this "expert" service, good or bad.

Most people genuinely want to learn more about their skis but heaven forbid they ask a service mechanic or dealer who just wants a billable job.

Have a heart for anyone who comes to this forum genuinely looking for advice and information.

I don't know about other dealers and I am working at my own repair shop I just opened and don't mind helping.but alot of times people come in looking for free advice or call looking for free advice then go on the internet by a cheap aftermarket price then come back in for more advice.so you have a few hours out of your day you loose money by not wrenching for some internet company to make a sale.i have over a 100k in tools and equipment plus rent ins and so forth.and you get people trying to fix it themselves to save a buck.

Amen to that

People are just looking for someone they can trust. Unfortunately knowledgeable Trustworthy people are difficult to find. It's a jungle and they are trying to find their way. Do what you can and don't sweat the rest.

I read every post and understand what everyone is saying. Even getting basic information can be a problem in automotive. I personally own several boats, 2 Harleys, 5 cars/trucks and have even had a few aircraft.

I am WITH the Sea doo Forum members and know how hard it is to even get the proper crossover part numbers for things like steering cables! It is very difficult... and I am not even including the flood of aftermarket stuff out there.

What I am saying is: Try to define and study the problem or question that you have, and dig in to find out as much as possible... BEFORE blindly asking for help on the various internet sites. Those with some experience can tell you that some of the internet discussions are total BS and can give you some very BAD advise.

I would like to HELP YOU to avoid these traps and try to verify what you are reading. Finding someone behind the scene is the best resource if you can find that person or dealership mechanic.

And to Poormanracing I say: I lived what you are doing my entire life. Try to weed out what we used to call "non-profit" situations as best as you can. The "time bandits" will take you down.

Agree , my ski was serviced by a dealer with the previous owner. When I went over it myself, I found two problems from dealer work. One the starter was "rebuilt" which was crap, the washers on the armature were missing, so the armature was binding the starter housing inside causing bad starts. Second problem was the oem wear ring screw hole weren't drilled, and the wearing was squeezing into the side of my impeller causing an 1/8inch groove in the wear ring. I've been an aircraft mechanic for 35yrs., and if you repaired stuff like this in my job, you'd kill a lot of folks.
