Why do Yamaha guys Hate Seadoo

We live in America, I like all the other brands of jet ski but why is it the Yamaha jerks call seadoo Seash*t. I have a 98 GTXL SBT rebuilt and I think I need to getit to shut down my friend with his 2001 XLT 1200. I am tired of his crap. Any suggestions.? I think just a skat trak will do but am looking at a head mod. Right now I got O'neil jetting and ProK andmy low to mid range is not up to par with the xlt.

Yamaha guys are either jealous or just plumb ignorant to what they're missing.

He has three years newer and 250cc and still your right there with him. You wanna beat him? Loose the couch and try the GSXL. That's a big hull you have to get moving.

If you were closer I would borrow you my RXPX sea $hit. lol,
I haven't got to race anyone with it yet :(

Yamaha's have to pee water 20' in the air to be noticed.......

951's don't do well with with big compression boosts, you're just gonna be inviting detonation in. you really wanna trounce him find yourself an aftermarket pipe and a set of aftermarket carbs. but all thats gonna run you about 1300-1500 and some time searching down parts.

Having both I can tell you historically seadoos are less reliable. Typically cause seadoo likes to run right on the edge of what their equipment can do. If you consistently do that you're gonna have failures......just the way it is. An fzr will likely never be as fast as an rxpx ( stock for stock), but chances are throughout that rxpx life it'll have more breakdowns( statistically speaking) than the yammi.

My yammi is stone cold reliable. If it has gas and a good battery it'll run dead on all day. Will it be the fastest and most nimble?..... nope sure won't, but it'll get ya there and sip gas while it does it.

Perfectly put. transportation VS excitement

My friend was scared of pushing my xp hard into turns after I finally convinced him to try it, he has a 2003 xlt1200.

I know I know, apples to oranges but still, the look on his face after riding was priceless.
Wait till he tries it with the a/m sponsons...

I was at my Favorite lake, anchored at the beach. Guy came riding back to beach. Yelled to his buddy, the ski owner, this thing is a SLOW DOG!
I yelled " should of bought a Sea Doo ". Boy did I get the glare from the Ski owner!

Personally i haven't ridden a yamaha ski for some time, but i regularly ride yami quads and skidoos. And IMO they are trash. I've rebuilt more yami engines than i can count. I find them top heavy and suspension is crap. I would put my '96 mxz against any mid 2000's yami and blow the doors off it and loose them in the trails.

And whenever im on the lake with my gsx or xp, i blow the yamaha's out of the water. They seem to just slide across the water and not carve, or bite. They don't cruise very well and don't handle chop. And for 1200 cc my 98 xp 951 is very close, if not faster. it takes the wholeshot hands down especially after fixing my cavitation issue. And looks way nicer in the water!

Seadoo's/BRP products do require maintenance. They pack a great deal of awesomeness into a small package. The old bulletproof 580 days are over. But if you maintain your asset, it will perform for many happy hours to come. IMO if you're going to have any "vehicle". I would take handling, power, and reliability with a heavy maintenance schedule over a slushbox with lots of power and low maintenance. And lets be honest. Half the fun of any power sports is maintaining and tweaking your toys!

This is my first season of owning Ski's. My Family loves the hell out of the sport! They look at other brands as inferior! It is funny, My son's love to blow by other Ski's and wave! Then circle them a few times! Just to grind it in!

oh boy.

I've owned both, and then some and i'll throw my 2c in.

Yamaha is definitely more reliable and sips less fuel, hands down, but SD has the upper edge in performance, slam dunk winner.

IMO if you just wanna cruise around and not worry about mechanical issues you should be a yami owner, if you wanna push the limit, SD is the way to go.

High end 2 stroke a proper 1300 yami is a bad azz ski, and will crush the 951 all day long, the right 1200 will as well However considering Mid range: I'd rather own a 787 vs a 701, its not even up for discussion, the hulls are far superior.

4 stroke IMO the SD win's on performance and I don't think its up for discussion. But I feel the same way about the 1800's reliability, it wins, it will just take a few more minutes to get there.

SD's weakness ? Its always been the Carbon Seal...

Pro's and Con's, just depends on what your looking to get out of your ride, there is no single ski that win's in every category (performance/reliability/fuel/comfort). SeaPoo vs Yamalog, they have both earned it. And that is ignoring all the Kawi guys that push their brand and the Honda lovers too.

If I was to generalize it: i'd say
SD performance
Yami reliability
Honda Fuel
Kawi Comfort

Pick your Poison.

Haha that's hilarious! Every time a little kid at the lake sees my skis they always ask "are those the ones that shoot water up in the air?" Lol, must be a kid thing

Ah, a Yamaha vs Seadoo thread in a seadoo forum.....

I've always assumed the Yamaha stream shooting into the air was a safety feature, so other boats can see you. Is there another reason? (I suppose I could google it)

I'm a "Yamaha Guy" and love seadoo jet skis. I have two X4s. I think new couches are boring and I like the light hard carving skis. With that said they do require more maintenance than other toys and hobby that are out there.

I think 90% of jet ski owners just want a cabin toy that they can push the start button and go ride, never having to lift the seat off and a 15+ year old seadoo carbarated two stroke doesn't fit that bill as well as a new Yamaha.

Yes your right, it is a safety feature... I still think it's silly, but that's just my opinion... And yes, what you said sums up a lot of what we are saying, no doubting Yamaha's reliability. As Matt Braley stated earlier, transportation vs. excitement.

yip, its a "visibility spout" but lovingly call it the "G@y Spray"

and just for the record, if you think the new couches are boring...your riding the wrong new couch. Park your azz in a RXPX 260 and you'll be anything but bored.

The gay spray is easily fixed on any yammi too. I took mine off in a matter of minutes. However, when I did have it....it was nice to be able to see when my wife went out by herself, who isn't very experienced on jet skis, to be able to see her clear across the lake from the spray. The yammi is the ski she'll ride, so I somewhat regret taking it off.

Yeah, we own both as well. We have like a 94 Pro VXR. It is boring as all get out, takes a turn in about 100 foot radius no joke. Its a clean ski, but it is just ugly as sin.

I keep it around for a couple reasons. I literally cant kill the damn thing, swapped it to premix and it runs amazing. Also I dont have to worry about it at all, so I let my friends ride that one. It is hard to flip, although it has been. But it just runs great. Over my dead body will I let them on my 99 SPX. I think it will out last me. Super boring, maybe goes 40. But I will admit, it has towed me back more times than I want to admit. Push button and go.

funny about the turn radius, it is god awful isn't it ? (never been on the VXR but I rode the venture and almost ran into the shore trying to make a u-turn, it never occurred to me that i'd need 50 feet of clearance to turn around !)

I have a buddy with a wave venture 701 and a 1200XL, leaves them outside, lets them sit for several weeks at a time, stale fuel, filthy disgusting engine bay's, he's had them for 9 years now and he CANT kill them.

Last fall He rode my X4 (dam near hurt himself) and when we got back to the ramp his first question was "how much for one of these baby's" and I quite simply told him to "keep poking along in your yamaha buddy, you'll find a way to kill a seadoo inside of 12 months."
