Where to put a side imaging transducer?

Hi,

I had wanted a Humminbird depthfinder/charter with side imaging ever since I saw one in action.

I finally splurged on getting a good setup, especially since I managed to lose track of a channel last season and ended up with fist sized river rocks in my jets, which wasn't a cheap repair.

Anyways, the side imaging transducer must be used off the transom, you cannot inhull them. They rely on low turbulence and are most effective at bottom/object plotting at lower speeds.

With that said, has anyone ever mounted a SI transducer to any boat, let alone a jet/seadoo? Do you have any recommendations for placement.

In the docs it seems to reference more towards bass boat type of hulls with outboards. I want to make sure I get the placement right the first time before I punch lots of holes in the transom.

Also, my speedo stopped working after that river rock incident, plus, this unit has built in GPS speed. Just pointing that out incase the speedo area might be the ideal place to mount such a transducer.

This is the one I have:

I will I could provide a link to online docs but I cannot find one.

TIA!

After rereading the docs and thinking the chances of someone having the same boat with SI transducer who is on this forum is rare, I think all I need are tips on the following:
Where on the transom there will be the least turbulence.
This turbulence should be low/nill at high speed also.
The transducer must remain in water when planing/high speed/wakes (obviously it can't be when catching air, lol)

Ideally, in addition to just low turbulence going in a straightline forward, it would be helpful if it was a good position with tight turns, and reverse as well. I am thinking where the speedo is located might be the best off the top of my head, I will take the unit out and start brainstorming though if I can't get any feedback.

One thing I am concerned about this thing is I may have spent a lot of dough on something that isn't geared towards my type of boat. Sure, I do fishing, and put-put and just cruise, but we also do spinouts and sub it also.

I am starting to get worried this thing can get ripped right off the boat doing nice flat spin. :ack:

Oh well, guess time will tell. This thing so darn neat though.
