top end rebuild will be done shortly, parts today and then the pistons and cylinders go to machine shop.

I've read to use oil to coat the cylinder before re-assembly, is this the best thing to do or is there something else or better that I should be using?

i'd use xps injection oil or whatever oil you use in your tank. Just smear a nice coating all over the piston, rings, cyl walls, etc. I personally would be a bit nervous using wd 40 or spray lubes of that kind for first time pre-lube. They tend to be a bit thinner and might not coat quite as well. I am sure either one would work though.

XPS Injection oil

Itotally agree with Rotaxrule. When I rebuilt my wife's 717 in her 97 GTS last year (Bad bearing on crank, Plastic race melted away) I put new pistons and rings in also and coated them with XPS before assembly. Alot of blue on start up but none now. 140 Compression, it broke in great with the help of the XPS:hurray:
