Hey guys, got a question about rebuilding my motor in my 97 model GTI with the 717cc engine. The motor blew up about a week ago and I have it all torn down. My question is what should I do to get the most power out of it and yet be reliable too.
I have measured the cylinder walls and I got to get 83mm pistons. Due to the damage to the walls to clean them up.
Since I have to go so big on the pistons will I have to replace the jets in the carb? If so what size do you recommend.

Let me know what you guys would do. Thanks, Ted

I would do a completely stock 717 engine with a Factory Pipe. Then do an impellor, intake grate and 85mm nozzle. Will be good to go. Will be better then almost any other modded 720.
