If the 96 has a tilted head cyl it is a 787, the newer one may be a 951, the 787 is a very stable power plant, the 951 has changes almost each model year.

if some of the bolts on the head, are actually nuts, then its a 951, also the "head" design ofthe 951 looks like an "8", wherethe 787/720..etc are a rectangle

OK, I know exactly nothing about Sea-Doos. Or any other watercraft for that matter.
Which part of it do I open to see the head? (And by 'head' I'm thinking you're referring to the cylinder head?) Is there a picture somewhere so I know what I'm looking for?
