hey i have a 98 seadoo gsx limited with the 951cc 130 hp motor in it i took it out this weekend and i guess the speedo decided its not going to work no more still felt like it runs strong and fast tho just to make sure all is good does anyone know what the max rpms should be? i was going to check compression but the way the heads are my compression tester would not fit because of the hull, anyways if i remember right full throttle on semi smooth water i was getting 6540 + rpms should it be higher if i remember it may have even hit 6700 once but mainly in the 6500s thanks, i just want to find a prob early ha, also when i take it out and its been about a week it will bog down when you give it gas but only for a sec and maybe like first run or first 2 runs rest of the day its fine should i get my carbs cleaned or something can i add some sort of injection cleaner in a 2 stroke thanks

Rev limiter is set at 7200. My 951 revs to between 6500 - 6700. Seems to be some discussion what the "right" rpm should be.

Yep. I've got a 99 gtx ltd 951. Rev. limit is 7200 mine revs at about 6900 to 7000. With the speedo, check the speed sensor under your ski- paddle thingy connects near the ride plate with wires going into the hull. I bought new speedo, checked wires and connetions, only for it to be the sensor....I reckon they go bad because they are positioned right near the exhaust outlet. Check the wiring under the dash and make sure all wires/connectors leading to the speedo are corrosion free.
Lower revs could be a number of things i.e. drop in compression, carbs need doing, bad water regulator, replacing grey fuel lines, spark plugs etc. Search this site, check other threads and try and narrow down the revving problem that is more related to your specific issue. Goodluck.

Hey thanks for all the input man I still can't check compression with the way tge head is facing but I will def go get new plugs this weekend before taking out they were changed about 2 months ago when I guested started taking it out for the year could have some build up? I would liketo get my carbs cleaned as well is that a Job for a mechanic or just anyone with some mechanic brains, I'm pretty new to these things but getting tge hang of it, not to worried about speedo not working but everything else does, it does always say low 12 volt even when there is a brand new battery reading 12.7 but it still starts it another weird thing is I can set clock and it's good for that day then the next time I take it out it shows 12 again think something could be wrong with comp?
