Coastiejoe Moderator Moderator Apr 18, 2013 #4 It is a sacraficail zinc to help corrosion due to salt water applications. It is suppose to breakdown and take the abuse so your metal components don't. Don't paint it and do not separate it from the plate with a rubber washer for example. It NEEDS to be touching the plate for it to do its job.
