what is thew deal w/ grey fuel lines?

i still have the grey lines in my 1999 challenger 1800. what is the issue w/ them? i just cleaned all the raves and am going crazy waiting for warmer weather to get it on the water asap!! please tell me how urgent the issue is with these lines. thanx.

nice boat.. the greay lines break down over time and they make a blueish green sticky substance that clogs up your carbs and could kill your engine. if they have never been replaced i recommend doing it now and cleaning your carbs before the warm weather gets here .

ya, i am sure i will be called out for not doing a search first, sorry! i searched it just now and found there is a ton of info on this. i thank you both for your input. now the to-do list of pre-season work on my boat keeps getting bigger and bigger!! Break Out Another Thousand $

replacing the lines is a pita but its not a terrible job, just replace them one at a time

today i tore into my boat to replace all the grey fuel lines and i found that there was only one grey line per engine. i think the previous owner must have started the project and just didn't finish. he left the hardest lines for me, anyways when i replaced the lines i cut into the old ones with a razor to find very little corrosion or slime at all. but by the pics i have seen it seems i am lucky. i know the guy that used to own my boat enough to know he always used ethonal free gas and treated the gas every season with startron stabilizer. with only two grey 'tempo' lines and very little gunk i think i could possibly hold off on tearing the carbs apart. and i put new inline fuel filters

that's my guess too, prolly the vents, but hey ! its done so good job !

it is possible they were vent lines, the only grey line remaining on each motor was about 12 inches long and went from the diaphram to a nipple on the engine side of the carbs (behind everything) it was wet inside and was black with slight corrosion. i am glad either way not to have junk lines. vent or no vent

thanx, all is well now. it must have been vent lines. they didn't look even remotely as bad as these.on to the next project!
