what is the RXDI LE?

I figured I was going to eventually stumble on this & figure out what this model is, but now my curiosity is getting to me.

I assume the LE is for limited edition like other model & year seadoo's But I can't find any info on what's different.

I keep running into there being two part numbers for engine components for the 2002 RXDI. for many internal
parts, even including the pistons. That surprised me a little. I assume the RXDI "LE" has more ponies?

BRP lists several 02 RXDI skis

Base: 5586, 5591, 5592
and the LE models: 5583, 5584, 5585

Are there really 6 RXDI ski options in 2002? Its a bit convoluted to me......

where it really gets confusing for me is with the oem pistons. there is only one part number for all RXDI engines with the stock size of 87.88mm

PISTON ASS. 87.88MM *PISTON-ASSY. 420889042 (replaces 290889040)

But, for to the next oversize & there are now two part numbers:

PISTON ASS. 88.16MM *PISTON-ASSY. 420889046 (replaces 290889046) (LE, I assume ??)
PISTON ASS. 88.16MM *PISTON-ASSY 420889043 (replaces 290889043) (5591, & 5592 models)

can anyone confirm what I am looking at?

It looks like they installed 2 different motors in that ski, and an "international" version of the same ski. Thsi doesnt really answer your question but sort of gives some background.

From another site
"They made a bunch of (good) changes in '02. They called the new DI engine the LE model. (Note that some of the early '02 RXDI's have the old style engine; need to look at your model number to be sure)
They totally redesigned the cylinder ports, to a 5 port design vs the 6 ports on the early models, a new head design, and different air injectors. The easy way to check which you have is to look at the air injectors; early ones are black and the later ones are gray. They have a totally new fuel and ignition maps in the MPEM as well. As a consequence, the LE model can use 87 octane gas vs 92 for the early models. And the later engines are more reliable and last longer."

A lot of people don't realize the difference, and put an early engine into a later model (or vice versa) and wonder why it doesn't run right. The fuel maps are that different between early and late models. If you put an early engine into a late ski, you have to put an early MPEM in to compensate

Is it possible that the LE stands for "late edition" rather than "Limited edition" then?

I thought I was on the path of figuring this out, as my research seemed to show the 2002 had the 5 port design
& part number 421000205 (replaces 290613576)

My assumption was based on the 2001 year using part number
#421000570 (replaces 290923718) & being a 6 port.

but the LE seems to use the same cylinder & head but has a different piston.

My Air injectors are grey, fuel is burgundy. The model decal has been removed on this ski, but was mfg in December of 2001 if that means anything.....

EDIT: Ill see if I can find some other hidden numbers on it.

It would seem the 2002 RXDI LE & 2003 RXDI both use piston 420889045 as a current replacement part.
No doubt that must be the 5 port.

however, the only model that shows an oversized piston part number is the 2002, non LE so does that mean there is no BRP oversize
piston for the 5 port?

I need to confirm what cylinder my engine should have, 5 or 6 first I suppose. There is a 6 port in there, but I know its not the original & as you guys know, this engine was assembled by Dr Frankenstein.

Actually, I think your post may have just helped me confirm what I have. That beat up head, that was "modified" I am pretty sure was original. That has the cast fitting for the water hose. I didn't realize they made a threaded & a cast. I just thought the threaded was for the boats & 90 degree fittings.

When I looked up the part numbers on both the LE, & non LE RXDI's they both show the 5 port heads, for some reason I thought they were different last time I looked them up. What is different though is the pistons. There are a few different part numbers. Maybe they have different skirts for port timing? That info you provided about the head, along with the grey injectors & cylinder part numbers makes me pretty confident now that it should have a 5 port. So somebody installed a 6 port because they didn't know the difference, didn't care, or they were not a gluten for information like me. I'm betting on all of the above...... ;)

Thanks for the links kicker, this helped.

Now I just need to figure out what pistons are correct, there's a few part numbers in the 88.25 bore oem's aftermarkets don't seem to recognize changes between years.

I have found both the 89043, & the 89046 as 88.25 replacements, but not sure what fits what & if they are actually different.

Seadoo did a heck of a job of making their part ##s confusing. Most MPEMs have different part numbers for different years and different models, yet many interchange.

As I said in your other thread, it was all about that Emissions issue they had to meet in 02. From what I know the 00-01s made more HP.

seriuously? good gravy. I didn't think of that one, but makes perfect sense. Now I just wish I knew what ski mine is......

Now I just need to figure out whats up with the pistons. I am going with oem oversized, but there are two part numbers i can order

The first option is the 42089046. These are 88.13mm & show they fit 2002 RXDI, RXDI LE, also correct for 2003 RXDI

Then there is 42089043 These are slightly larger at 88.16mm & show they fit 2002 DI non LE

I am guessing I can run either one, but if its emmsions that makes them different, I am thinking the 42089043 is probably the one to purchase. Just not sure why clearences are tighter on the non-LE pistion.

Anyone know?

isn't there an id plate on the engine near the pto? maybe you can run the numbers at the dealer and tell you what you have.

Actually on some sticker vin tags on the back below the bond line have the 4 digit build code. There are other stickers randomly placed inside the hull, usually in front of the gas tank.

Some have the HIN engraved in the fibreglass under the MPEM, not sure if the model # would be there as well.

So now that I have my parts, I am still second guessing what I bought.

I had finally figured out that that 6 port cylinders are correct for 2000-2001 & 2002(non-LE) & 5 port are for 2002(LE) - 2003
I assumed I have a 2002LE because it has the grey air injectors. But now, I found a few pictures of what I assume is a
2002 RX LE, & they appear to have the low emissions sticker on them like my 4tec has. not to say the sticker wasn't pulled off when it was new, they were kinda ugly.

This seems crazy that I can't confirm what model ski this is. driving me nuts

I found it! Just not in the way I was expecting. While looking things over again, I noticed the emissions decal has a part number on it. Part number #219902023. So I looked up the part numbers for that decal & it matches the LE version. So I have the correct parts & can keep moving forward with the build.
