What in the world is wrong with my seadoo challenger

Hi - Thanks to all the experts who participate in these forums!

my 2001 challenger makes a odd backfire and rumble sound when coming up to plane.

I posted it to YouTube (just about 20 seconds) and tou can hear it towards the end of the video.
The marina replaced the plugs and said they were fouled with oil ms that seemed to fix it. But after a few uses the problem came back.

Any ideas what’s wrong with it?

thanks!

Hi - It’s the M2 Mercury Jet Drive and was new as of 2017 when I got the boat.

I don’t know about the throttle guard but nothing was changed.

Thanks!
Mike R

Not every boat got the throttle guardian.

Check your emergency kill switch, Push on the cap as you accelerate. Check all your ground wires. Check wires at key switch. Check all the electric connections. Yes, I know there are lot of them. Look at the wires coming from the trigger base under the flywheel. Starboard side. Look for crumbling insulation. While you are there, check the trigger with ohm meter. Easy.

Thanks for the reply’s everyone - is this small box next to the fuses the “throttle guardian”? It does have a black and yellow wire. People have said I should just cut that? Thank you in advance.
