What EXACTLY happens when a RAVE valve sticks?

Searched the forum for specific info on RAVE valves. Looked primarily for telltale symptoms and what to look for to know if you have a non-performing RAVE. Most answers were very vague. I never found a post where the author said "Eureka! It was a stuck/broken/clogged RAVE.
Much has been made of religious maintenance of this part when very little impact on performance has been noted. Hope somebody smarter than me can chime in.

The reason the answers are vague, is because the symtoms aren't clear.

If it's stuck shut... it will still get up to almost top RPM... but it will feel like the power falls off.

If it's stuck open... the idle will kind of suck... and it will feel a little flat in the mid-range.


I personally run my RAVE's full tight, so they only open at the higher RPM's. It gives a great mid... and a hard pop up top.
