Hey guys. First timer on the website here. I just recently purchased my first boat. It is a 1999 Seadoo Sportster 1800 with twin 85HP motors. I bought it from my friends father in law and it has only been on the water 8 times since new. He waxes this thing at least 4 times a year. It is absolutely immaculate. There are new boats on the dealer floor that arent as nice as this. He even went as far as polishing the motors with a toothbrush. He gave me all the life jackets, tubes, etc as well. Picked it up for 6500 bucks. Hopefully it will fullfill my needs of watersports and basically just cruising around.

First question for you guys...how is the fuel economy of these motors? I have 2 stroke skid snowmobiles and they arent all that spectacular so I am not sure what to expect.

Any upgrades I should do or just run it like is?

Thanks guys and look forward to talking with you

Welcome.

First... Hobbie has 2 "B's" in it. (lol)

$6500 is a smoking good price, so even if you don't like it... you can get out of it easy.

That boat will use 15 gal/hr at full throttle. BUT, it will drop down to 7~10 gal/hr at 75% power. (about 35 mph)

Where in PA are you? I'll be at Bush Recreation area tomorrow.

Last thing... mods on a twin engine boat are expensive... and they don't get you much. With the exception of a set of Skat-Trak "Swirl" impellers... I would run it stock.

I live out near Allentown PA. We ususally run the local lakes around here or go to the Chesapeake. I do have family back in the Altoona area so I will be hitting Lake Raystown a few times. Been there in my younger years and loved it.

Thanks for the answers. I will be keeping this thing bone stock then performance wise. Not worth messing around with if the power adders have very little benefit. The only thing I may look into is a wakeboard tower but that may be down the road. I'll get some picsd when I pick it up this week. Anxious to get out on the water now!

Yes... I played with an 18' cat for a bunch of summers... but I thought it was Hobbie. (not important)

If you are going to use it as a wake boat... the Skat-Trak "Swirl" impellers will give you the best "Out of the hole" performance.

I have the exact same boat, though not as immaculate. I have run it hard, but it has given me great service.

ENJOY !

I got mine last year for over 4k at the end of the repair bill. Heres a pic of the hydroturf I just put in. lmk if you need any parts. I got a rpm gauge the floor storage lock for 70 bucks from this guy
