i found a 96 xp at a real good price now most ppl ive talked to on here say buy it regardless and part it out and that id make my money back easy but id really like to get it running and use it.i put my battery in it and it i got no beep and no crank at all i checked all fuses and none are blown.i didnt think to look and see if the gauges lit up to check if mpem was working or not and the ski is an hour drive to go check it again.i did find one wire splice at the rear ebox from inside to the harness outside the ebox its a red with blue stripe wire idk what it goes to.can anyone tell me what else to check for to narrow things down,i really dont want to buy another mpem if thats what the problem is so id like to narrow all the possibilities down either way cuz im pretty sure im goin to buy it.i know title says 97 xp but its actually a 96 my mistake

heres a pic of the wire that was bypassed and ran straight to the harness just above the plug to the rear ebox

I don't see anything that isn't factory.

If you don't get any response... I'm going to say the MPEM is bad. I see it all the time because people jump start these things, and roast the computer. (or hook the battery up backward)

the splice right there in the pic is what im talkin about what does that wire control,it runs from there out of the box and i dnt mean thru the harness it actually runs from whre the lid seals the box shut they removed the big oring from the lid so it would shut with the wire hanging out like that.is it possible to use an mpem from a diff model ski like my gsx i have here and just use my key along with it?

that's not a splice, it's a connector and is factory. that wire supplies the MPEM with power, did you check the fuse right there?

heres a pic of the other side so u can see what i mean cuz i dont believe its factory, yes i checked them all and none were blown

Not to change the subject but. What's going on with the drive shaft? Doesn't look right.

I see what you're talking about the green wire butt spliced the the red wire, lower right of the picture. Still kinda hard to see what's going on. Do you know where the red wire is connected?

Lou

well, that's not factory, that's for sure. where does the wire go? that's also not a 97 xp, looks more like a 96 xp.

driveshaft looks fine for a 96xp, but is really short for 97 xp. lol

the drive shaft is fine from what i could tell i pulled the cover off to spin the motor over to make sure engine wasnt locked up,i really dnt kno where that wire goes i was hopin my fellow members would kno.

nobody is going to know what some moron wired up, that's a real hack job. with wiring like that I'd guess they fried the MPEM.

so, is the ski a 96 xp?

I'm goin over to look at that ski again today can anyone give me somethings to try and see y I get no beep nor start.also if the LCD lights up does that mean that the mpem is good?

well got the ski home last night went and changed the start stop and the buzzer.also pulled the starter and its no good either so i replaced all that from another ski i have and now itll turn over but wont stay on.itll only stay on long enough to burn off the premix i put into the carbs.also i went back to the skis original buzzer and start button seems they do work after all guess they were plugged in backwards from the previous person messing around in there.now i just gotta figure out how to keep it running.i do have the grey fuel lines which ill replace later and go thru the selector switch aswell.
