i have a 1996 spx and i had the battery and oil warning lights on when in diagnostic mode and while running. Just replaced battery and did not change. Oil reservoir is almost full. Any suggestions to troubleshoot this issue.

sounds like a wire came loose. The lights on an 96 are "Mechanical" (not controlled by the computer) And when the circuit is open, the lights will come on.

If you know the oil is full, and the engine is cool... they should be out.

You could have a malfunctioning gauge, unclipped connectors, or corrosion in those connectors. Or, the oil sensor may be bad. Get your OHM meter out.

ok I did a bit more playing.
To see which gauge i have you can google part number 278000502.
it is the one with the LCD fuel gauge in the middle with 4 warning lights in the corners.

First, found the LCD fuel gauge was not showing fuel level. When i disconnect the fuel sending unit an additional low fuel wanring light comes on. Since the SKI has about 1/2 tank it appeas that this is working and reading properly.

Second, no matter what i do I cannot seem to get either the battery or oil light to go out.

Third, I removed the gauge and peeked inside behind the wiring rubber seal and found that the PC board looked like water oxidized it. Since water appears to have penetrated the gauge housing, does you know if there is any way to access the board inside this housing without destroying the gauge?

Seems to me that maybe i have a gauge that has partially failed and should just replace it. Any thoughts?
