Hello all. I am wanting to upgrade from a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke and just want to get an opinion on this.

Seller states that the supercharger was rebuilt at 250 hours? (How do I confirm this as there is no paper work)

He also states price is negotiable.

What would be a fair value on the listing above?

Has anyone already looked at it to save me time if it's a dud?

I think price will depend on your area and the ski hours and condition. 250 hours is a lot of hours, although I know it is not unusual for a well cared for Seadoo to go 400 hours or more. In my Florida area, a ski with this many hours is probably $5000-$6000 with a trailer included. A couple years ago, this was a $3000-$4000 ski. I have 250 hours on my 2007 GTI SE 155 and it is a reliable ski, but I know the history and how I have taken care of it. I would be a bit cautious buying someone’s ski with that many hours, without looking closely at the impeller for wear, the wear ring, engine compartment for rusted bolts and hose clamps, and the supercharger maintenance. I own 155 and a new 170 ski without super chargers because I don’t need the added speed, horsepower, and maintenance.

I don’t know enough about super charger maintenance to share how you can determine rebuilds by just visual inspecting... if possible at all. I think you have to do manual checks of play and resistance.

"What would be a fair value?"
Nada lists an estimate of $5530 USD w/o trailer

When? S/C's in those models needed rebuilds every 200 hours or 2 years (which ever came first).

Also, is this something you're willing to pay for every 200 hours/2 years? Expect to pay above $600 for this.

When in doubt, take it to a certified SeaDoo mechanic and pay for a pre-purchase inspection.

I am not worried about the jet pump. Wear rings and impellers are pretty easy to switch out.

Just mainly the engine and super charger.

Thank you for your input. I think I am going to just go look at it. Should be able to tell vaguely how well it's taken care of and then if it looks good will just water test it when it's warm enough

Telling you the supercharger was rebuilt 250 hours ago doesn’t really need to be verifiable. He’s telling you if buy the ski you need to have the supercharger rebuilt. I would be much more wary if he said he didn’t know or it was rebuilt 50 hours ago with no paperwork. The cost of a supercharger rebuild is $500.

He stated that it was rebuilt at 250 hours. Not that it was rebuilt 250 hours ago. So it has about 70 hours since the rebuild. If I do buy it, I am going to get that done as a precautionary measure either way

You're looking at over $1000 to get the supercharger rebuilt. $500-$600 is if you do it yourself.

If you have not made the purchase, just move on to something that:
A. runs now
B. has some kind of history
Why even consider such a purchase?

Ski 101. Runs great now and is dependable. Don't buy someone else's junk at ANY price.Unless you can and do work on these skis, just stay away!

Hey! While it isn't a direct comparison, I bought a '07 RXT with 150 hours in 2015 for $7,000 with a trailer. Granted that was with paperwork showing the work was done at 147 hours. (Call me crazy, but given the price of the work and how critical a good SC is to the ski, I'm surprised they don't have any papers showing it was done. Though, it's very unlikely they made it to 320 hours on the original.) Given that it's now nearly 2022 and the ski is fast approaching 20, I'd say it's roughly worth $5000 with the trailer... (Covid prices... couple years ago could have got it for $3-4k). You'll get another 80 hours on the redone SC. Around 150 hours they start losing power and revs, anything past that and you start getting into blown SC territory which can blow the whole ski.

No real way to check that the SC was done. If you want to wrench, you can take the tube into the SC off and try spinning the wheel by hand. If you can spin it, it's a bad SC. I'm now sitting at 330 hours and just had the supercharger done this year. Cost $1000. ($600 in parts, $400 in labor.) Best way to check the engine is with a compression test. If you have a mechanic and you heart set on the ski, best to ask them if they mind doing a check for you.

All that said, I think the jump from 2 to 4 stroke is totally worth it. Love the power and the ease-of-use and not having to clean carbs and mix oil. Worth at least talking to the guy. Where did he have the work done? Like others said, how does the impeller look? How's the fiberglass? How much rust or oil is in the hull? Being in IL, I assume it's a freshwater ski, but always good to check. Were they jumping waves on Lake Michigan or cruising on the Mississippi? (Supercharged skis don't like being jumped because you go from a hi-rev, hi-load going up the wave to nothing when the ski leaves the water... Not that you can't or shouldn't, but worth knowing if this was a guy in his 60s taking it easy, or a teenager just beating the crap out of it!)

I bought an 04 RXP that did not run as a winter project last year. Tore in to it and found 4 bent valves and a broken timing chain. No problem. I did a full on bullet proof build. I got it for 2,000 and probably have 6 in it. Went Riva stage 2. Rebuilt the charger, ARP head studs, TDR exhaust, new oil pumps and wear plates, Molinari rods, Wiseco pistons and all kinds of fun stuff. Ran it all summer. If you can do the work, it can be a fun project.
