Thinking about adding a wakeboard rack to one of the GTX skis. I see that there is a currently offered rack from BRP. Not sure if it will fit an older ski. I also found this one #295500602. I search around and can't find much info on it except that it appears to be for older skis like mine.
Anyone know anything about them or have you used one of any kind? Anyone know how these mount? Comments? (besides "don't wakeboard behind a seadoo" or "just throw it beside your leg in the foot well"
Well I went ahead and got these off Ebay. $30 including shipping. They are a semi hard neoprene foam. They have a quick disconnect mount that you screw in, and a hook that goes over the rail. So I mounted them up and then found the first issue. The straps that hold the wakeboard on are too short for a modern wakeboard. Perhaps these would be better for water skis. So I found that if I slid the board rearward that one strap would work as designed, and on the other I could use a bungee cord. That holds the board really well. So onto the water test. Well it failed. Actually, it holds the board OK. But as you make any sharp turns or hit wakes, the water comes up to the mounting blocks and creates a wave directly at the passenger on the seat. It also hits the driver some. And in rough water, it is really bad. It then tries to pull the board off the rack. So I am going to take them back off and go back to just having the board sit in the foot well. I may design and fab up a rack that only has a couple of tubes coming up that will not cause a splash. Oh well.
