Wake 155/GTX pre 2006 - stay away? Ballast? Pylon?

Hi I've been looking for a pwc. I've decided a Wake 155 or a GTX with the same motor is what I want - not interested in the supercharger. I'm stuck with the idea of being able to add a ballast tank and ski pylon - I think we would get more use out of it this way.

If I can't find a wake with the ballast I heard that I should be able to add them if it's a 06-09 (and add to GTX's for these years). True that it's a limited option to only these years? What's different on the other years? Can I add a pylon to any year?

I also read that 05' and earlier had issues with the valves - true? Better hull material in 06?. Best to stay away from 05 and older?

Why did seadoo discontinue the ballast tanks? IMHO they seem like a great idea.

I asked my local dealer these questions any they knew squat. I asked seadoo and they told me to ask my dealer - not helpful.

Thanks for the time.

I believe they discontinued the tanks mainly as the demand was not high enough to justify the cost of making and stocking them.

04 to mid 06 are the Sodium Valves. So get a late build 06 or later. Or, just figure that cost into the buying price.

Most valve failures are SC'd engines and Salt Water engines. I have seen the 155 engines in the 400-500 hour range and the valves not changed out in fresh water and non-SC'd skis.

Thanks for the info on the valves. Good to know that if its not SC or been in salt that I shouldn't have to worry much about them. I'm a long long way from the salt - sadly.

I have seen a few of the 155 engines eat a valve, but pretty rare as compared to the Salt Water and SC skis.
