VTS issue

Since buying my ski a few weeks ago the VTS would only click when trying to use it and the nozzle wouldnt adjust at all. I took the motor out and bench tested it and it works fine. The 5amp fuse up front in the mpem blows as soon as I replace it.

Does this sound like the relay built in the VTS housing is bad?

Do I have to replace the housing or is there an easier cheaper repair?

Thanks in advance for any info and help, its much appreciated. Trying to get a few more rides out of my GSX before getting it ready for the winter.

Yup its the housing...I get $140 shipped for a good used one. There are some "fixes" out there but none of them give you 100% functionality as far as I know.

but yes.
my guess is its the module, there are quick fixes to it for like $100, there is also a $20 fix to it, but you have to buy the relays at radio shack, etc, and build it and but nick is right, you still will be dealing with issues like having to stop it before it goes all the way down, up, gauge might not work, etc if you do a quick fix, so your not looking at a 100% replacement.

just by a used one that works.
or...
since your up north... put the vts back in, set it in the middle manually assuming the motor works by connecting the lines to the battery.
ride until it gets cold, vts is not critical to a good day on the water. . then shop for a good used vts or do a quick fix over the offseason.

I did the quick fix and then got "the trim fix" gauge fix, have to watch the gauge but $30 beats $140
Do you have a link to any directions for the "quick fix" and the "trim fix" gauge fix? My gauge works now just stuck all the way down same as the jet nozzle is. so Im assuming my gauge is working correctly.

Thanks for the info guys I appreciate the help! I think I am gunna set it manually ride a couple more times then work on it in the winter.

So whats the deal with needing to stop the vts before it goes all the way up or down. Will the motor overpower the parts and break them. I was kind of picturing this setup like a power window. The motor stops when the motor is basically locked up. There really is no limit switch

the problem on the ski is that the motor can draw much more power than the ski's charging system can support, or the relays can support, so if there is no limit switch, it will blow the fuse before you realize it has stopped. the way people get around this when they to the relay fix is that they put an automatic reset circuit breaker in instead of the fuse.

the module if working correctly solves that issue as well.

to find the $20 fix... google "trim fix for under $20 "

Thanks for the info. I had my jet pump off so I manually adjusted the trim to straight out rather then pointing down like it was. What a difference it makes to the stability and steering response! Makes me want to get the VTS working properly so I can adjust while riding.

Had a problem with my vts and it turns out the magnet fell out of the rod! There was nothin wrong with module so now I have an extra with the gauge fix attached..
