For context: I have a 1996 Sea-Doo XP 787 that I bought last week for $250 and have been fixing up.
So I decided to bypass the VTS module since it was dead and go with the relay trim fix that gets posted around here. Bad idea — or at least bad execution on my part.
I cut the wires coming out of the VTS housing thinking I could just splice everything back into the relay setup. What I didn't realize is that some of those wires are tied into the main electrical system and not just the VTS motor. When I cut them all at once the bare ends touched and popped a fuse. I replaced the fuse, reconnected every wire carefully, but now the ski won't start at all.
Before I cut anything the ski was running great. Now I get power to the MPEM, it clicks normally on key in and 30 seconds after, but there is zero voltage on the yellow/red trigger wire going to the solenoid when pressing the start button. I can still crank the engine by jumping the solenoid directly so the starter and battery are fine.
I've checked every fuse in the front box and rear box — all good. Grounds are solid.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Could cutting those VTS wires have damaged something beyond just blowing the fuse? Any help appreciated.
