I stumbled on to this brochure looking for something else. What do you suppose people thought when these first came out? Had to seem crazy cool at the time. First time I had a glimpse of the whole brochure. It would be fun to take one for a drive today.

I can only imagine the issues they had with them back in the day however.

Too bad Aqua-Scooter didn't stick as the coined term instead of "Jet-Ski". lol

An Aqua Scooter is a two stroke hand held pump that pulls you around while your swimming. They are from Italy. I have a couple but have not played with them in years. I think the guy was just throwing out associated key words.

My dad worked at a Marina when the Seadoos came out back then. He remembers the guy coming around to demo them and try to sign his bosses up. It's crazy the way the pics show models with no life jackets. I'm kinda surprised the sales didn't take off back then like they did in the early 90's.

The moment the inventor's(patent holder) term ran out with Bombardier Kawasaki gobbled him up and never looked back.

I saw one of these for sale a couple of weeks ago on CL. I can't remember how much he was asking though, but it looked in really good shape. It said the top speed was a whopping 15 or 20 mph.

Edit:

This isn't the ad that I saw earlier, but this one is up now.

It actually says Aqua scooter on the third page. Not as a model, just an invented term I suppose?

I see the Aqua Scooter now. That is a great name. The whole industry still embraces "Jet Powered".

I think the originals were only in 68 and 69. Probably just an honest mistake from the cl poster.

I think they are all "jet skis" to the average individual, right? But, in fairness, when they were really getting popular in the late 80's, it seemed the the kawasaki was the one to get. Or at least around me it was.

Someone should buy that and ship it to racerxxx and let him restore it! I would chip in to watch the process! Lol

I really want one just because of the oddity, but think the novelty would wear off when I got passed by the first kayak. Some day.........

LOL, parts might fly, the 68's had cooling issues. It would be sweet to have one 787 powered, the ultimate sleeper.

Like this, not quite a sleeper with the open stinger pipes. In stock form this sled is dead quite, add a later model liquid Rotax and a early Doo, this is what you get.

when I see an older vintage machine like the one listed for sale above, I often wonder how many years, if not decades it sits somewhere, untouched & waiting for somebody to do something with it. Day after day just collecting dust & getting passed by. In some ways, its incredible this stuff survives at all.

Somebody must have had a "some day" plan for it?
