VHF radio

Anyone have a vhf radio installed in their boat? In a slip this year on a large lake, my handheld doesn’t get reception in areas and I keep forgetting to charge it. Looking installing one. Any pics would be great. Thinking of antenna on tower etc too.

I've been researching handhelds and I'm curious what model you're unhappy with.

I bought a Uniden one 4 years ago. Uniden Atlantis 150

I like the idea of a handheld because it has its own battery, but I think you get much greater range with a 25watt with a big antenna versus 6w with small antenna.

Yeah, same, plus handhelds usually are floating If I get into something bad etc. I’d like to have both. Handheld Seems ok 5 miles from shore but when get 15+ miles out it gets spotty to no coverage.
