So, what is goin on with my friends boat? Same boat as mine. 2004 Speedster 200.

Boat started fine a day earlier. Then he hooked to truck to tow on trailer. When he stopped for fuel in the truck, he saw smoke from under cooler (behind steering wheel) and found the VCM wires melted. Now it won't start.

The melted wires are the control harness, not the fuse harnesses. (longer rectangular connector with lots of wires going into it)

Any ideas?

wires don't spontaneous melt. sorry, but I have no idea what could have happened.

You will have to just pick thought the system with a meter, until you find the short, but with all the burnt wires, that may be hard to do.

Could a failed VCM cause melted wires?

Do you think a failed VCM could do this? By the way the whole harness is burned up on the VCM. Like all of the wires in the larger harness with smaller gauge wires in it.
