Using alternative MPEM's in 1997 GTX -- what happens

I have a 1997 GTX, the MPEM for this year includes the ignition.control. I need to replace the MPEM (it is fried at the white wire going to the coil, the coil is cracked and the white wire is burned at that end as well==I suspect the cause was my error for leaving a tricke charger on over the winter in hopes of getting another season out of a battery) My question is what happens if I put on a different MPEM which also has the ignition control. (eg one from an SPX for 1997, which has a different part number than the MPEM for the GTX). My suspicion is that the spark advance curves are different for each MPEM, but it may be more than that.

The Seadoo MPEM for the GTX has part number 27780002233 or 278001200, replaced by 278001242 The MPEM for the Spx is 278001255.

Thanks

More or less... you can use an MPEM from any other ski, ans long as it's for the right motor.
