From what I read only PWC are being band because of a law suite filed years ago. Since that lake is used for drinking water for Las Vegas they are trying to keep down the polution. Boats are not being effected yet in the ban. Pretty much only direct injection 2 strokes are allowed. The cost will be to much to covert. Look like the law suite is the main reason this is going in to effect.

Solution is to sell it and get a 4 stroke. Otherwise it's cost prohibitive. Or move to a different state that isnt' prohibiting older 2 stroke craft. Very unfortunate but understandable.

Here is the other places you use your craft. I feel your pain, I like 2 srtokes over 4 stokes only becuuse you can fix them for less money and eaiser to work on.

Where else can I use my PWC if I can’t use it on Lake Mead or Lake Mohave?

Not at Lake Powell. The same rule will go into effect for PWC's at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Glen Canyon NRA currently doesn't intend to extend the carbureted two-stroke ban to all boats.

Two-stroke PWCs are as of 2011 still permitted in areas such as the Colorado River south of Davis Dam, Lake Havasu and other recreation areas managed by other federal, state and local agencies.

It is looking like the NPS is going to be doing the ban in many state. The Park Service people are very strict on this stuff. I know they are for 4 wheelers also.

Man that really sucks, what's the fine if you get pinched out on these lakes with a 2 stroker?

Reading the article it says they won't fine you unless you're a bad offeneder, but it doesn't say what the fine will be. People need to switch to cleaner burning oil. I pretty much use Amsoil and I don't have the cloud of blue following me.

Well that's not so bad coining up for better oil is a lot cheaper than coining up for a new ski!

I'm not an Attorney, but I did stay an a Holiday Inn Express last night. I'm not sure that a government entity can legislate a legally licensed vehicle off of a public waterway. So unless Lake Mead it a private lake, which I doubt, I don't see how they can ban a 2-stroke PWC or boat.

The problem is there will have to be a test case to be tried in court, I personally wouldn't want to be that test case. Unfortunately the ban may stick because of lack of funds to file a suit or support a test case.

In your case I have no idea who has passed this regulation, Fed., State, or Local, if it were me I would write to the representative(s) that have passed and are going to regulate and enforce this ban. Maybe there's a loop hole or a grandfather clause.

Good Luck

Lou

Here is a link to the notice of the law. LAW

It was passed into law in 2003 and set to go into effect 10 years later. I would presume that 10 year delay was to give people time to adjust.

Here's an idea... Once the ban starts, just don't put oil in your boat! Hey, I didn't say it was a good idea... Or maybe put a huge 4 STROKE sticker on the side of it??

Disclaimer: Not putting oil in an internal combustion engine will make it cease to operate.

its only on carb'ed 2 strokes, so throw some di/rfi decals on you ski, warm your ski up on land, don't pre mix and hope they don't make you open your seat.

Did you read the link? It states that the ranger can open and look at your engine... ummm... not a good sign

yes, and is the state going to spend the time/ resources to either hunt down and hire rangers who know the differance between carbed and efi and/or train the rangers to know all about all the different ski models and how to tell the diffreance between them?

Well, I guess it depends on the lake, I go to Puddingstone Lake and they send people away for any little thing, believe me once I wasnt let in like 2 times, 1st they said that there was no pressure on the Fire Extinguisher and 2nd when I came back that I didnt have a "Throwable Personal Floating Device" (not a life vest, a TPFD), I was like wow...

One time I drove all the way to Crystal Lake (1 hour away), to be told that I was being "quarantined" for a week, because there was like 1/10th of an inch of water in my engine bay, it rained 3 days earlier, nope they didnt care.. so I guess maybe in some part of towns, here they are extremely pickY about every little thing, so now they have one more thing to be picky about

wow man that sucks i can't believe they do that you. 9 times out of ten if you even see a game warden on the lakes i go too, he'll ask for your regastration, boater's safety certificate( if you apper to be under 26) and your fire ext.

but to drive my above point home it the proper decals where applied could you tell the diffrance between the two enigines below?

Wow I guess your right! but doesnt your registration have your year of the boat... maybe you got something, my boat looks really a lot newer.. so maybe I can get away with it... for a little while... how does the sticker look like?

hmm i'm not sure you could pull it off since most of the "visual trick" depends upon having one of the motors that they offered in bot configuations, i.e. the "rave" motors ( the 787 and 951). then pull up pic of them and try to visually match the two so the only real way to tell is to pull of the flame aresstor, which if the stock post 96 is left on is a PITA to get off. so there in no why it can be done easily. but in your case you have a "stand-up" so it will be harder. but isn't the ban on 2-stroke skis?
