has anyone tryed different spark plugs in the 787 challenger 1998, you can get the Y or the platinum or copper, what has everyone tryed and how did it work against fowling starting etc..... I am going to guess without looking at the manual plugs are br8es? my boat is at the lake and i am going to switch the plugs.

NGK makes an iridium plug a BR8ETX which is supposedly a direct replacement for the BR8ES, there was a set in my 96GSX when I bought it last year. I guess they're O.K. but there's no advantage the BR8ES work just as well, $8.00 vs $2.25 I'll just stay with the BR8ES.

If you are having problems with the plugs fouling you need to find the root cause. When I bought my 96GSX last year the guy was having a problem with the engine cutting out that's why he had the Iridium plugs, turned out the problem was the rectifier.

Realistically... in a 2-stroke... there is no reason to use anything other than a conventional plug. With a platinum or iridium plug... you will normally foul it faster since they have a smaller electrode.

So... as Lou was saying... it's just a waste of money.

A set of conventional NGK's should last a season. If they aren't... then figure out why. (Could be low compression, RV out of time, leaking needle and seat, or oil injection not set properly)
