Howdy all....eager to begin another season of boating but trying to address some issues that I encountered at the end of last to get my trailer back in compliance. Noticed that the rear lights were no longer functioning (most likely due to them not being water tight...found out the hard way)...no big deal but figured instead of dealing with incondescents burnin out i replaced them with LED's...or almost did....can't seem to get the drivers side light to work....pulled some of the wiring out of the frame and found that there was quite a few connections for what I'd assumed would or could be a simpler diagram. From all the diagrams I've seen none seem to address the 7 wires i have running into a four plug connector....it appears i have addtn'l lights on the stem of this trailer but am assuming, again, that they simply tie off the brown wire (steady burn)....regardless what i'm tryn to get at is i was considering replacing the main plug from the trailer since one of the rods appears to be worn down and may be the root of the problem...any one have a clue as to what i may be getting my self into if i simply cut it off and go by trial and error at which wires are tied together into the same plug rod on the connector?

It should be fairly simple to replace the plug by looking at the one you cut. But, before cutting, almost EVERY lighting issue I have ever had with all of my trailers came back to a bad ground for whatever light was out. Doublecheck your grounds to make sure they are clean... boat and pwc trailers are notorious due to the obvious dippings they get and then air dry

good luck

joys of wiring...driving me bonkers...changed harness...have good power coming out of it for boths sides of harness...pasngr side all functioning in the back...driver side in the back, nothing...tested lght...works...went so far as to scrape paint off trailer for good grnd, nothing...wiring frm frnt to back in one piece...now something curious is that on the pasngr side there is an extra grnd wire?...nothing from either side is dependant on the other as all wiring is plumbed from the front and both sides have equal number of lights...i never pulled wiring so number of wires present is wat it came with....watda!!??

LED being the key item when coming to discover (i 'd say the hard way) troubleshoot issue w/ the inoperative lghts on the driver side. i was on the rgt track when i discovered that the trailer, when utilizing incandescent fixtures, needs only be grounded as a whole. however when dealing w/ LED, each individual fixture needs be grounded! arrrgh....imagine has something to do w/ how current flows thru bulb and LED simply generates light from the electrons being excited by current, who knows, i'm obviously no electrical wizard. sufficid to say grounded said individual fixtures and voilla...we have light....thanks

Visit --> http://www.offroaders.com/tech/trailer_wiring-diagram.htm <-- and --> http://www.accessconnect.com/trailer_wiring_diagram.htm <-- they both have diagrams in color, something that will give you long life is vaseline on the base of the bulbs - leave the lenses with a hole to drain water and remember to unplug the trailer harness before you get to the ramp and back in after the hull and lenses have drained - the brake pedal sends current into the water filled lights when you stop on the ramp.

thanks for reply 'voodoo'...trailer lighting up and running w/LED's all round...lookn sharp ....breaths new life into the trailer as sportster in 'like-new-condition'.....recommend uprgrading to anyone

Bubba,

Sorry to highjack an old thread, but I am in the same exact boat! (no pun intended)

I have a Karavan under my X20 with 7 wires coming out of the tongue into a flat four connector. It was a bit short, so it popped out on the Interstate and ground off. So I did as you wanted and thought about putting a new end on with a bit more wire so it would not happen again.

I sat with a circuit tester for over an hour to test each pin to be sure I knew where each one of those blessed 7 wires connected to. I too am unable to get the drivers side to flash other than with the hazards.

So there is a ground running to both taillights? The guy that owned the trailer before me said he replaced the taillights with LED's but I am sure he didn't touch the running lights.

It looked to me that there were two ground wires (white), the yellow and green on the opposite side, and three wires that ran to the second pin.

This wiring left me with hazards and a right turn signal. Left turn just turned on the right light.

If you have a diagram from the LED kit you put in, please share! The other basic 4-wire diagrams do not seem to apply. And simply putting the whites together is not working.

Anyone else have a daigram for this 7-wire trailer?

Thanks all!

Mark
