Finally got around to doing a formal go-over with my trailer.
Bought two skis new from dealer on a new tandem trailer. The tongue was to long and caused surging and bouncing. But since I bought them in Michigan and live in Ohio there wasn't much I could do about it until I got home.
Cut off the tongue and bolted on a new hitch end as the original was welded on. Did minor maintenance at that time and nothing else until today.
Measured the hubs to get bearing buddy's, bought them and headed home to do a major go-over.
Removed the rims and scrub them and the tires to like new condition. Pulled the hubs as I wanted to clean the bearings pack them with new grease. Removed the hubs only to find out my axle was drilled for a zerk fitting. Installed the zerk and put a grease gun on it to make sure the axle was drilled to feed the bearing area) it was.
So no need for the bearing buddy's.
The point to this post is, I am very anal about my things. So for my trailer to need the following I would think many out there need the same.
Lug nuts all needed a bit of tightening, hitch latch (internal guts of the hitch) needed tightening, wheel bearings needed to be snugged and one bulb needed replaced, (converted all but the rear marker light over to LED bulbs). Put light grease on the winch mechanisms and on the internal parts of the hitch latch.
Springs and shackles are still in like new condition as it the trailer.
Moral of the story, maintain things before they need repaired or replaced. Sooo much easier and cheaper than fixing things....
