After reading many reviews from people on here i decided to get the Trail tech. Just installed it and hooked it. I dont have my carbs on the motor currently but when turning the motor over, it shows 1440 RPM . I know that starter is not turning it at 1400 RPMS.. on the box it said to press the button(which im guessing is the only button on the unit lol) and pick a mode. Well when i got mine out of the package it was already on but showed 0.0 hours, but when i try to access the menu it doesnt do anything but sorta flicker? Even tried to hold the button for a few seconds and nothing.. Advice?

are you hitting the button on the bottom ? (the one that sets the mode and timing ? ) you have to use a pen or paperclip to hit the button, its recessed.
never really tried to turn over my ski with no carbs but the tach installed so I can't say what it would normally read.. but either way don't worry until you've actually turned the ski over, then if its not reading right you can diagnose whats wrong....

Fire the ski up. If it reads around 3000 on the trailer then you're fine and know that it's on the proper setting.

I'm hitting the blue button on the bottom , yes

Just installed mine today...

just looped the wire around the plug wire and ran it thru the top cover to my dash and bolted it to the empty gauge cover on my xp...looks alright

i set mine up at the PPR adjustment of crankshaft revolutions of 2.0, and high sensitiviy of tach pulses...

Just set up mine the same way, and am getting around 2600 rpm at idle. Had it set at 1 initially, and was getting almost 6,000 rpm. Just wondering if someone could explain why there are 2 fires per revolution? I would think a 4-cycle would be .5, or a fire every other revolution, but why wouldn't a 2-stroke be 1 fire per revolution?

Seadoo ignition systems are wasted spark systems, meaning both spark plugs fire at the same time. Once at tdc, and again at the bottom of the stroke, when the other cylinder is at tdc. Therefore each plug fires twice per revelution. So you need to set your tach up accordingly.

Robj, that depends on the engine and year. The 99+ 951 is not that way. Can cant cross spark plugs. It won't run.

But, yes the 787 sparks both plugs every time.
