ok all, finally got the ski to where it should somewhat be...patched up the pto boot for now, put one-two full squirts in the zerk fitting and seems to be holding...
looks like now its time for some cosmetic work...

opinions..should i take the splash deflector off the front (it says bitchin' stitchin') or leave it? was on there since i got it...does it slow the ski down?
also the seat is in pretty good condition, only starting to peel on the two front corner edges..kinda like dry rotting from the sun...is there a cheap alternative, or should i have someone reupholster it?

also, since i took the crappy purple ripped up hydroturf off, it looks alot cleaner, but i pretty much bust my ass everytime i hit a wave goin fast cuz i slip...
i dont ever ride anyone, should i just put some grip tape where my feet go, or get nice hydroturf again?
also, where the stickers used to be is ALOT whiter then the rest of the ski..
what can i use to even it out?
thanks allski.jpeg

ps, the whole ski looks really white cuz of the brightness in the pic...it actually looks alot worse in person

Looks good so far...have you ran it hard yet?

1.Take the guard off....isn't the fun of skiing getting wet?
2.For now put some green vinyl tape on the seat and see how it holds up.
3.There is DIY stuff on the market, there was thread about it last week. Lots cheaper than Hydroturf. Sorry but IDK what the guy used instead.

4.Use polishing compound on the whole ski to clean it real nice.

dont know about the tape..would prolly look too ghetto..thinkin bout getting close enough matching spraypaint and painting the foam, lou if ur reading this, i know u had the "krylon touch" on the plastics and the handlebar cover, but how well do u think that will hold up on the seat?assuming it would even adhere to it? no parts of my body touch those areas while riding,i just know certain foams arent absorbent enough,so it may just drip off...let me know what u think....also, yea i think im gonna be ditchin the bitchin stitchin...

and oscar, if ur readin this, can u work a deal with me on that trailer? i lost ur number, didnt save it...let me know..tryin to keep whatever paint is left on the bottom of the hull..

i dont have any hyrdoturf, tape, or anything.... honestly i use a 9 dollar pair of water shoes (i know,.... i know it sounds alot worse than it really is) but my feet stay where i want them to and ive hit some pretty IMO i think the ski looks alot cleaner with nothing there

as far as the seats concerned ... run to your local fabric store and for like 10 bucks you can get something to cover it your self ... thats what i did with mine just a good staple gun and good staples are needed

let us know what you decide

You're right tape is gonna look like crap, and it not going to adhere in the constantly wet environment. And yes you can recover the seat yourself, if you do be sure to use stainless steel staples. The problem is, if you don't recover the seat, the foam is going to deteriorate and you will have to replace the foam also. You can also get standard or custom seat covers, I don't think they're that expensive.

I would get new matting, either hudroturf or blacktip (it's the same stuff). I get the precut with the peal and stick backing. If you do it yourself true is will cost you about 1/2, but unless you have the original mats to use for a pattern it's going to be hard to do plus you've got the hassle with the glue. Either way, and I know you know this, be sure to fill the rivet holes, I use 5 min. epoxy.

Oh I almost forgot, painting the seat is only going to make it worse, not a good idea.

I'm going to PM you with additional information.

Lou

pm me

hey lou, yea i filled all those rivet holes after i found the two that were leaking under the hydro turf...used marine tex white cuz it matched the hull almost exactly..and before i bought this ski,i bought a yami gp760,and the PO had nice matching blacktip seat covers but didnt use SS staples,so there were rust drips all the way down the ski at every point where the staples were..and mattydipps,i agree it looks fresh without any mats, especially the torn up purple ones..i was considering buying those skeletoes grip shoes, but they run about 80$, so i might as well get pre cut hydro turf..as far as the seat, i had a dirtbike where almost all the foam was missing, so i reupholstered it myself with staples n 3m adhesive..didnt come out too bad,but was kinda bunched up in the curved areas...so i dont think i wanna risk effin it up..i think theres an upholstry shop down the road from me,n its marine upholstry, ill ask the price.is there a certain material the seat is made out of?

You could recover that seat and get hydroturf for under $200 total. Hydroturf also sells new seat covers.

There was a website I can't remember off hand that u can make a custom seat cover what ever color you want and they'll send you the skin for cheap ill look for it and post it when I find it

what did you end up patching the boot with?

I patched a pinhole in the rubber bellows in my Water control valve a couple years ago with permatex and it's held so far.

Hey do you let your bird fly outside, and would it come back if you did?

i actually sealed it with jbweld, and it held good being stationary...took it out for a spin, and the jb weld was almost gone..tried jb welding it again, but now there was a slight grease coating and it wouldnt adhere at all...so i squeezed the rest of the grease out, cleaned and scuffed the surface, put a tiny cut piece of plastic from a ziptie, bout the size of a tiny button, put a little crazy glue over the hole, put the piece of plastic on top, then crazy glued it again, then put more B.J. (j.b.) weld on top...took it for a ride, came back, the B.J. was off again, but the crazy glue and plastic patch seemed to hold well for now..its like the B.J. wont stay once it spins...so its good for now, but i dont trust just the crazy glue, so i wanna put something else on it..so does that "permatex" hold strong on rubber? i saw that in the store as well, but i think i overlooked its adhering properties.. So i definitely wanna add a little more something for added piece of mind.....
and yea Alex is fully flight trained, she's about two yrs old, and i raised her right outta the egg...hand fed her and everything...she was pretty much fully flight trained by 4 to 5 months old...she was actually MORE disciplined then than she is now... Now, instead of taking her out every single day after work to fly, i only take her out about once a week due to my work schedule and the hawks/seagulls that gang up on her and attack her (she got into a mid-air tumbling match with a hawk, a little smaller than her, and it tore her left foot apart with its talons, and bit her right wing), so, she gets pissed only going out once a week, so she usually likes to go hang out in the palm trees and hang upside down like spiderman for about an hour before she decides she wants to come home...
she's a pisser, and so smart.

it was a couple years ago but i think i had better luck putting it inside the bellows that way the pressure isn't pushing it off.

You should use a bicycle patch. You can get patchs called "Scabs" that are super sticky. So sticky they almost don't want to come off the backing paper they're packaged on. I found them at Walmart for a couple bucks. Before I forget if you see the house brand patches don't even bother with them, Those things will hardly stick to a window let alone a rubber boot.

Yea, well, theres NO WALMART ANYWHERE down here..closest one is on the mainland. just called my girl up in sarasota, she was actually JUST pulling into walmart parking lot, so she's gonna pick them up for me...thanks for the tip!
