About 20 min ago I just put a new wear ring & reconditioned impeller on my 97 GTI the pump is on my work beanch now, and when I turn the prop it seems a little tight, the shaft turned more freely before the impeller was on, is there some kind of spacer inbetween the prop & pump? because I did not have one.

you probably binded (bound?) the bearings. Take it apart, and make sure it is all lined up, and put it back together.

I did that the first time I put mine back together...the flat bearing got pinched and didn't spin freely.

What he said...when you tighten up the prop there should be a little play in it after you tighten it...if there isnt you may have pinched/wrecked the thrust bearing.

If that up and down play is there, and its still tight....thats good. As long as the engine can turn it over, that all you care about. I had one I put together that was too tight to turn over so I sprayed some fogging oil in there and it was enough to get started. Then took it directly to the lake to "adjust it" w/o melting it.
